Felo Ramirez
How about the numbers for Villone when he pitched 2 nights in a row before? Not to mention he JUST got traded 3 days ago... 888371 Ron Villone on third straight day in 2005: April 30 @ OAK: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 31 pitches (7 batters faced) May 29 @TB: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 pitches (4 batters faced) June 22 vsOAK: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 25 pitches (4 batters faced) July 10 @LAA: 0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 10 pitches (2 batters faced) TOTAL: 4 1/3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER (2.07 ERA) (13/17 hitters faced retired) Pretty damned good. Pitching his third straight day was not a factor. How about we try to do some research before we claim these broad general sweeping statements??? 888376 April OAK. --- April 29 he pitched 1/3 of an inning April 28 he pitched 1/3 of an inning May 29 @ TB --- May 28 he pitched 1/3 of an inning May 27 he pitched 1 1/3 innings June 22 vs. OAK --- June 21 he pitched 2/3 of an inning June 20 he pitched 1 inning July 10 @ LAA --- July 9 he pitched 1 2/3 innings July 8 he pitched 1/3 of an inning Aug 3 @ STL --- Aug 2 he pitched 1 1/3 innings Aug 1 he pitched 1 1/3 innings My point is, most of the times that he pitched 3 games in a row, there was a game(s) that he pitched to only one batter. Jack used him for 1 1/3 on two consecutive nights. He shouldn't have put him in tonight. Period. But, whatever, I guess you feel Jack is a terrific manager. Personally, I don't and I am tired of his attitude and of him mismanaging the bullpen and the bench.

prinmemito
Jack mismanaged the pen. No need to use Villone three days in a row.
MarlinatPenn
Pitching 3 days in a row had no effect on Villone. He's done it 4 times this year and pitched well. If anything, you can question McKeon for putting in a lefty when he knew that pitcher would have to face a right-handed pinch hitter. You guys second-guess, but what other option did Jack have? - Villone did not have good numbers vs righties, - Mota and Mecir didn't have good numbers against lefties. - Vargas wasn't available because he's starting. - Not gonna use Jones in the seventh inning. - Santos has bad numbers vs lefties, and LaRussa prob would've left Mabry in. - Alfonseca was the only option where no one would've second guessed McKeon. I don't blame this on McKeon, there's not much he could've done different. If those two warning track shots in the first inning go an extra five feet each, the Fish have got 8 runs in the board. No one mentions that because there's no one to blame that on. The Cards are in first and for some reason they get all the breaks, they're a tough team. It's frustrating I know, but this one's not Jack's fault.
IrishHarrington
I do blame McKeon , I think 3 days in a row given the extra travel and stress of being traded wasnt need . Mckeon has a tract record of over using and burning people out. He has done a horrible job managing this year and last nights game was the nail in the coffin of the Marlins season. We should have that game even in the wild card teams are pulling away most of our games are on the road against quality teams time is running out...Call me dramatic if you want but this team is falling short of the playoffs this year because we couldnt beat the teams in the early part of the season that we were supposed to and left ourselves no room for error in the second half. rferry
In the only comparable situation Villone has pitched in, he walked one batter and threw a wild pitch strikeout (7/10) after 2 innings of work the two previous days. He's been traveling since Sunday and pitching since he walked in the door. Mecir or Mota would have been the best option IMO. Both are good pitchers who can get any type of batter out in nearly any situation; and each were rested (Mecir - one day, Mota - two).
