August 10, 200322 yr Dolphins get more attention because they have been here longest. The Dolphins do seem to try and bad mouth other sucessful teams in the area using their WQAM mouthpiece. If you look at the reality, many people who are interested in sports news won't tune to 4, 6, 7, or 10. They will tune to ESPN, and ESPN has been praising the Marlins as of late. To the media in Miami, this is the order of importance: Dolphins Canes Heat Marlins Panthers Why you may ask? Let's take a look at their media partners. Dolphins CBS4/WQAM Canes CBS4/FSN/WQAM Heat CBS4-UPN33/Sunshine/WIOD Marlins FSN/PAX35/WQAM Panthers FSN/WQAM FSN does a good job with the Marlins and promoting them, who doesn't...hmmm... :mischief2 .....oh yeah, it's WQAM! Even PAX35 tries to get positivity about the Marlins on it's air on the NBC6 Late Newscast (which PAX35 repeats.)
August 10, 200322 yr Right. They've been here the longest and have grown a huge fanbase. The Fins get the coverage because they have more fans, plain and simple. This is a football nation and a football town. It would be refreshing to see the Marlins get the bulk of the coverage right now though, seeing that they're the only ones ACTUALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A SEASON RIGHT NOW...not to mention a playoff race. and yes we're interested in Marlins spring training news too, but we don't expect it plastered all over the front page and the 6 o'clock news either. August 10, 200322 yr FSN does a good job with the Marlins and promoting them, who doesn't...hmmm... :mischief2 .....oh yeah, it's WQAM! I hope the Marlin's change radio affiliates when 2005 comes around. WQAM is full of idiots who bash on the Marlin's which may turn fans off about the team. Plus the signals are horrible. Perhaps the Marlins can move to a news station... 610 WIOD? :mischief2 They attract more people(bigger ratings) because of being a news station...Also Marlins broadcasting Schedule would fit right in (Basketball season begining as baseball season ends .) Any other radio station other then WQAM.... Anbody agree?
August 10, 200322 yr all i know is.... MONEY TALKS WQAM owned by Beasley Broadcasting of Naples. WIOD/WRFX owned by Clear Channel Communications of San Antonio. Money is not a problem for WIOD/WRFX.

Money is of course budgeted, but what I meant to say is that Clear Channel could make the budget to pay for it.
August 10, 200322 yr i was at clear channel by Pro Player.... i guess that is miami's pod? Yup, that's Miami's pod. Clear Channel is a big enough company to cotemplate getting the Marlins' rights on the radio. If Beasley (a relatively small company compared to CC) can afford the Marlins, then I think WIOD can. Remember that WIOD's programming comes mostly from Clear Channel sister companies. Dr. Laura, Rush, Phil Hendrie, Coast to Coast, and Schnitt all come from Clear Channel. WIOD better get room in the budget for 2005
