August 11, 200323 yr Sure do wish that Beinfest will go after an established hitter for the last couple of months. With our pitching turning the corner, we need one more bat in the lineup. Although TH, Fox, Mordy and Banks are all veterans, we need some more pop out. With our lineup, we can manufacture only a certain number of runs. I would like to get a OF/1B type that can hit more consistently than our streaky hitters. who is out there that we can "rent" for a couple of months?
August 11, 200323 yr Same names from the Trading Deadline, nothing has dramatically changed. I wonder if any more players have cleared waivers since Jayson Stark released that initial list.
August 11, 200323 yr I wonder if any more players have cleared waivers since Jayson Stark released that initial list. I just heard on SportsCenter that Palmeiro cleared waivers, but then rejected a trade to the Cubs saying that he wants to stay in Texas and help them get back up to .500.
August 11, 200323 yr For more than a month I've been calling for a good stick Bench OF that can play all three OF positions plus first base to give our great starters a break. I'm sure FO was looking. Didn't happen. But, not because they didn't try. But, now, I am not as concerned. Banks, Fox, Mordecai and maybe even Hollandsworthless, will rally if they get AB's. What has made the difference is our pitching. And with Tejera back on track... we can make it. (actually we only need a good Bench OF for left and right... Encarnacion can cover center.) p.s. I'd like to see Lenny Harris in our clubhouse.
August 11, 200323 yr Yep Conine came up to my mind. The Marlins were close again a week ago to aquire him but the deal went off again. Maybe we can go after him and get him to fill in for D.Lee.
August 11, 200323 yr With Lee's Injury still hurtin him, would the fish go after conine? Conine fits my profile perfectly. And I do not believe Mr. Marlin is in love with Baltimore, as reported. Guess it's a matter of contractual dollar and cents. With his current batting average of 285 he's highly marketable. But, he could come in now, help us, and if we don't resign Lee, take 1st next near, and then have a long, secure relationship as a utility back-up/pinch-hitter for years with the Marlins.
August 11, 200323 yr but who do we give baltimore?prospects?btw...conine can play out field. He is an OFer by trade
August 11, 200323 yr would Conine even get thru waivers? and the O's wanted DLee for him anyway.... probably more wishful thinking than anything....and also there have been numerous quotes by Conine that says he wants to stay in Baltimore and he is happy there
August 11, 200323 yr We should steal some players from the Brewers. :thumbup I'd take G. Jenkins in a heartbeat
August 11, 200323 yr ummmmmmmmmmm, who wouldnt The Braves :shifty The already have Chipper, Andruw Jones, Sheffield
August 11, 200323 yr The Braves :shifty The already have Chipper, Andruw Jones, Sheffield LOL, yup. But they would just trade for Jenkins and bench him. :lol
August 11, 200323 yr Baltimore would be lucky to get anything more than a bucket of baseballs for Conine. Forget about him playing the OF anymore. Plus, Conine is hurt right now, too. The smart move would be to get someone who won't cost you anything and isn't likely to attract any attention on the waiver wires like Matt Stairs or Vander Wal and Brian Buchanan to platoon (Vander Wal is killing righties and Buchanan is killing lefties this year). The Marlins need another OF, because an OF of Encarnacion, Cabrera, and Pierre isn't going to cut it against the Braves, Giants, or Astros. Encarnacion should be coming off the bench backing up all 3 OF positions. Cabrera can be moved to 1B in Lee's absence.
