September 5, 200521 yr jack if your reading this put lowell at third and cabs at short tommorow. Oh, so let me get this straight. You, Captain Let's Keep The Defense Intact, want to move someone who has outgrown his natural position to the extent that the only times he has played there in the majors is because of emergency while bringing back into the lineup the second worst regular starter in baseball behind Christian Guzman? Who goes into the left field, Abraham Nu?ez? Or maybe we could put someone that can play LF with the same defensive ability that Cabrera can play SS, like Matt Treanor or Randy Messenger.
September 5, 200521 yr Call up dillon for third base? Seriously, Miggy seemed happy with a nice HR shot (would of won the game if Mota didnt suck grr hex you next year mota). If Miggy is happy then that is good for the team. He has been struggling lately and if he struggles the team struggles. I would like to see this line up for a week then make a decision. I know we dont have time to mess around, but perhaps it might make a difference. As for SS I dont like Easily there, doesnt Andino got a solid glove but a crappy bat?
September 5, 200521 yr This move was done three months too late, but better late than never, I guess.
September 6, 200521 yr Oh, so the Wild Card was decided on August 30th? Fact of the matter is the Marlins made the playoffs without Mike Lowell, advanced to the NLCS without Mike Lowell - hell, they did most of their damage in the playoffs without Mike Lowell. And like it or not, this isn't 2003. There isn't an impending Phillies collapse just because it happened in 2003, there isn't an impending Braves hot streak just because it happened in 2003, there isn't going to be a broken hand to one of our players like it happened in 2003 with a magic hero emerging from the rubble. History does not repeat itself in baseball. It is a completely by chance numbers game that every so often follows patterns but its only form of repetition is through the psychological makeup of the players, coaches, and fans who are thoroughly involved in the game's day in and day out affairs. And Mike Lowell has a very, very negative psychology at the moment that is only proving to be a detriment to this club's chances at winning baseball games and reaching the playoffs. You want Mike Lowell to play? Fine. I want to play in October. 930808 First of all, since we are talking about getting to the playoffs lets not talk about what mikey did or didn't do in the postseason. Second, if we hadn't have had mikey the part of the season before he got injured, the marlins sure as hell wouldn't have made it to the postseason. The WC was not decided in august 30th, but without his contributions to the team the fish wouldn't have even been close to competing for the WC. And unless you know mikey urself or u are his personal psychologist I cannot see how u can know about this "negative psychology" that u say mikey has. The guy has been trying hard, maybe too hard and no doubt that he has sucked. In any moment did I say that he should remain in the lineup; all I said is that he was a big contributor to the '03 championship team.

So, for the bs-impaired, you basically answered my argument with: - He made contributions before the pennant race. - I don't know him so I can't comment on him. I'm not even going to touch the second, because you're not in Mike Lowell's head so you also are not in a position to refute my point, now are you? As far as the "we wouldn't have gotten there without Mike Lowell" theory, we also wouldn't have gotten there without AJ Burnett, if you think about it. We wouldn't have gotten there without Jeff Torborg, or Dave Dombrowski. Did Mike Lowell have a direct impact on the race? Yes. But so did every player on the team. What you have to ask yourself is this, since we're obsessed with actually believing 2003 has anything at all to do with 2005: Did this team not get to the playoffs without Mike Lowell? And if you answer anything but yes, you are lying to yourself. The fact of the matter is they played the most pivotal month of the season without Mike Lowell, and since the 2003 team did it we must have to do it too to repeat history!

Fact of the matter is the Marlins made the playoffs without Mike Lowell, advanced to the NLCS without Mike Lowell - hell, they did most of their damage in the playoffs without Mike Lowell. 930808 The move of Lowell to the bench was no doubt warranted, if not even about 3 weeks too late. That said, please don't diminish what Lowell did in 2003. He was a huge part of our roster during the year, and a big reason we made it to the playoffs. Sure he missed a chunk at the end, but he was there for most of the year playing all-star caliber baseball. I also seem to remember him hitting some huge homeruns in the playoffs, earning his way back into the lineup after injury. Lowell is having an awful year, but don't diminish what he did for us in '03.
September 7, 200521 yr I think my taking into account the month of September as most important in the baseball season is being mistaken for not caring about anything that happened before then. Mike Lowell gave us triple digit RBI's in his time in that season and that was irreplaceable. My point is not to discourage anything Mike Lowell did in 2003. But that was, quite simply put, 2003. Not 2005. It has absolutely nothing to do with 2005. And, for those who still want to believe that because something happened two years ago it has to happen now, I present the further evidence that Mike Lowell didn't even have a say in the playoff race from the day the calendar hit September in 2003. That's my point. I don't believe 2003 has anything to do with 2005, because it doesn't. But for those that do, Mike Lowell didn't play that September either. So either way, the 2003 argument is moot.

His play up to that point put us in position to even be a player in the wild card race, and without him we don't win a world series. The point is whether or not Lowell is of value down the stretch to this team, and it's obvious he's not and won't be. He's in a very long slump, it happens to the best of them.

That's the point, regardless of why he didn't start. Regardless, it's a point that shouldn't have to be made anyways because 2003 has nothing to do with 2005. Some people, unfortunately, cannot see that.

I am not obsessed with believing that '05 is going to be '03; '03 is gone, history. Now, what it seemed to me was that you were undercutting Lowell's contributions to the team that year. Did the team secure the WC after he was injured? Yes, they did. Everyone played a part in getting to the postseason, just that Mikey couldn't be there at the end. Now, with my Lowell theory, who do u think they would have put in third base if mikey woulda been out the whole year? Miggy? Mordi? Joe Dillon? I dont' think they woulda had a replacement for Mikey or for his numbers. I'm all for taking Lowell out of the lineup at this point; his defense is great but we all know about his offensive struggles. Now, lets just hope that whoever takes his spot in the lineup (hermida) can provide the much needed spark to get the team going, if not, idk who will, and it doesn't seem like we will get to repeat history.
