September 5, 200521 yr Jack had a talk with Mikey Lowell and he told him that Miggy is the new 3rd baseman. Craig didnt know if its for a few days or for the rest of the season. Mikey Lowell :crying
September 5, 200521 yr Minervini said that Lowell was possibly done for the season ... not injured, but he might be left on the bench for a few games and possibly the rest of the season Cabs at third and Niner & Hermida splitting the OF duties ... hopefully Jack sticks to this all of our prayers have been answered :notworthy

September 5, 200521 yr Hopefully, Lowell can still be a contributor. And, who knows, maybe he'll be World Series MVP.
September 5, 200521 yr Thank you Jack for finally pulling the trigger on this move. Hopefully Lowell can still contribute off the bench this year and come back strong in 2006, though I wouldn't bet on it.
September 5, 200521 yr Lowell can platoon against lefties at 3B or 1B to rest Cabs/Gado. Great love though. I apprecaite all Lowell's contributions to this club and hope he figures it out in the off-season.

September 5, 200521 yr Great move. I hope Cabrera will be our third baseman for years to come. Hope Mikey comes back strong next year, but I am not going to hold my breath.
September 5, 200521 yr if this is true.... its 'bout time.... Hopefully Hermi is the same spark that Migue was for us in '03... GO FISH!!!
September 5, 200521 yr this move blows lowell defense>caberas defense i would like to see lowell play a couple of more games when seabass doesnt play that means lowell can play third and cabs at short and i dont give a rats ass about what you people think lowell has been a big part of this ball club not this year but in 2003 he was with that huge homerun in the nlcs game 1 i dont he should be benched for the rest of the season and i dont like the idea of easly playing ss.

Now as for your post... Offense > Defense.........by far. What Lowell did in 2003 shouldn't determine what the team should do in 2005. Especially when we are in a pennant race. When I decipher the rest of the post I'll get back to you.
September 5, 200521 yr There goes mikey's chance for a gold glove this season; but that asides, that change had to be done. Sorry Mikey

If 2003 stats had anything to do with what was happening now, we would have the Giants in first place in the NL West, the Braves would be running away with the division, and the Cubs would be getting ready to make a late charge for first place in the NL Central. Oh, and by the way, the Marlins made the playoffs without Mike Lowell and with Miguel Cabrera at third base. Maybe you are a tad too blind to remember, but he missed the entire month of September thanks to one Hector Almonte.

He carried the team before the injury.
September 5, 200521 yr Oh, so the Wild Card was decided on August 30th? Fact of the matter is the Marlins made the playoffs without Mike Lowell, advanced to the NLCS without Mike Lowell - hell, they did most of their damage in the playoffs without Mike Lowell. And like it or not, this isn't 2003. There isn't an impending Phillies collapse just because it happened in 2003, there isn't an impending Braves hot streak just because it happened in 2003, there isn't going to be a broken hand to one of our players like it happened in 2003 with a magic hero emerging from the rubble. History does not repeat itself in baseball. It is a completely by chance numbers game that every so often follows patterns but its only form of repetition is through the psychological makeup of the players, coaches, and fans who are thoroughly involved in the game's day in and day out affairs. And Mike Lowell has a very, very negative psychology at the moment that is only proving to be a detriment to this club's chances at winning baseball games and reaching the playoffs. You want Mike Lowell to play? Fine. I want to play in October.

September 5, 200521 yr I just watched the interview again on Marlins on Deck and Jack specifically said he's going with a combination of "Hermida AND Conine" in the outfield, so don't think we won't be seeing Hermida.
