Want to re-visit that AJ trade?

Last four games...

Innings Pitched: 18.1

Hits: 25

Walks: 11

Earned Runs: 21

As some of us said near the deadline....the guy has never pitched in and won big games. And in these big games down the stretch what has AJ done? Well, he has talked down to fans about attendance.

McCarthy, Anderson and Marte....:::sigh::: would have been nice. At least he still throws a mean pie to the face.

I wanted some team to give up enough that Burnett was dealt, and still wish he would have been had the right package (i.e. McCarthy, Contreras/Anderson, and Marte) come along.

However, I'd say it's best to wait until the end of the season to judge whether or not Beinfest made the right move.

If A.J. is lights out for the rest of the year and postseason, then we'll look back at this stretch and say it was just a slump, similar to Dontrelle's 3 consecutive bad outings. I'm not getting my hopes up, though.

We weren't going to get the White Sox deal. Beinfest didn't want it. He wanted to deal with Baltimore. So did Burnett and his willingness to sign determined the package we were going to get. I'm just thankful Angelos got involved ans killed the deal.

I always believed there were ways to win without A.J. To the credit of management, we've taken steps to address some of the weaknesses. But we still have Lowell's contract and Burnett, who seems to be more interesting his stats and 2006 paycheck than winning. And honestly who didn't see the latter didn't pay attention to how the brat has operated in the recent past. And worst of all, we missed out on what could have been a package of solid role players for our pennant run and/or top prospects that could gaurantee the Marlins would be in pennant contention for a very long time.

Sell high, buy low. Not the other way around.

im still happy that we kept AJ ... he did have that run of 7 straight victories while blowing people like there was no tomorw. without him the team would not have gotten this far and certainly it would have taken a serious toll on the team emotionally

he's doing bad ... he needs a good talk. I still got plenty of faith on him

then wouldn't that make him do good out there? ... i dont think that losing and not hitting the strike zone makes your stats "better" ... ohh especially when you go 2 1/3

Well, how do you explain the return of the old A.J. that tries to throw the ball as hard as he can and not throw changeups in a pitcher counts? He, and the team, did much better when he was pitching to [weak] contact and getting effective innings out of his arm.

I agree. AJ's approach to each AB appears ass backwards. He's throwing his fastball down the middle for strikes and trying to get guys to chase his offspeed pitches out of the zone.

Both his change up and knuckle curve are damn tough pitches to hit.

He needs to reverse it and throw his off-speed stuff for strikes, enticing ground outs, and nibble with his fastball.
