September 24, 200521 yr Carpenter went 5 1/3 innings, gave up 8 runs on 12 hits. His ERA rose to 2.67. Barring a letdown by Dontrelle in his final game, Florida will get its first Cy Young winner in its short history.
September 24, 200521 yr Couldn't happen to a sweller feller. This is all we got left. A shiny trophy to shoot for.
September 24, 200521 yr Author Couldn't happen to a sweller feller. This is all we got left. A shiny trophy to shoot for. Dontrelle is a guy you should root for, no matter the outcome of your team's season. He is a great guy and deserves this award.
September 24, 200521 yr Holy s***. Last time I flipped over to the game it was still only 2-2. That's ok.. When you have a person with history of arm problems and pitches a lot of innings like he has not to include a retarded manager.. IT was bound to happen eventually. As a Cards fan, I'm worried. Personally I think he's tired and may have blown out his elbow/arm but I'm going with tired.. Who knows.. God dangit Tony, all I wanted was him for the playoffs. You may have gone and f'd that up. :plain On the plus.. Last time he gave up 8 runs he went on a dominant run but then again.. He didnt have that many innings thrown.. So congratulations to Dontrelle.. Much deserved.. and not to mention I love watching him pitch anyways. Carp didnt get it done his last 3 games.. I still love what Carp did this year though but I hate it.. :banghead
September 24, 200521 yr Author Carpenter's line finally closed. 9 ER in 5.1 innings. His ERA jumped to 2.71, compared to Dontrelle's 2.44 :thumbup
September 24, 200521 yr Dontrelle just catapulted to the Cy lead with that one. Wow. This is fantastic. C'mon guys the season is not lost. Florida is going to get it's first Cy Young winner!
September 24, 200521 yr Yeah, it's not even close now. And Dontrelle gets the Nats in his next start, and it seems like he always does well against them. Clemens is missing his start tomorrow, so I don't really think he has much of a chance. Dontrelle's where Carp was. He just needs to not get rocked.
September 24, 200521 yr That ain't no silver lining. Still would be the case if our bullpen knew how to pitch. Go Dontrelle though. Hope you get the award you deserve. Getting 22 wins with a team like the fish isn't easy. Just bitter right now.....

Dontrelle could easily have 24 wins right now if he had the offense and bullpen to back him up.
September 24, 200521 yr I just hope Dontrelle grows a 3rd arm over the winter so we can at least have more help in the pen next year. :lol
September 24, 200521 yr It'll suck of Carpenter still gets it. Dontrelle got gipped at the all star game by him, hopefully it won't happen again. Stats please?
September 24, 200521 yr I see no reason why he can't at least learn to pitch right-handed. He can do everything else.

Not to mention if luiy had handled that ball hit by Abreu (easy double play), he could have possibly had another complete game shutout. argh
September 24, 200521 yr wonderful for dontrelle, of course this makes us pay him more, but im all for it if he can do this for seasons to come. he deserves it big time, i cant stand watchin the fish choke because of a six fingered monkey and todd jones, who? todd jones, who? the guy who blew it again. good seeason but terrible time to choke....again
September 24, 200521 yr When is the Cy Young Winner Announced? :mischief2 This is awesome...GO DONTRELLE!!! but then again, Dontrelle is so damn humble (or stupid, depending on how you look at it)...that they'd give him the award and he'd just pass it to Carpenter... I got a nasty feeling that if Dontrelle won a Gold Medal he'd go out and get it bronzed... :thumbup

They do it on purpose to keep baseball on the frontpage for as long as possible during the offseason.
September 24, 200521 yr Carpenter is pitching with a bad back. Carp's OK: La Russa said Friday that Carpenter sustained some back soreness in his last start, Sunday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, and that factored into the decision to remove the right-hander after four innings. However, both the manager and head athletic trainer Barry Weinberg said that Carpenter is now good to go and will face no unusual restrictions in his final two starts. I'm not buyin the he's ok crap either.. Anyways.. I'm extremely happy either way.. I couldnt be happier for a player like Dontrelle. Carp has said he was just honored to be mentioned for the CY (Kinda like Dontrelle) so whoever gets it gets it. I hope we shut Carpenter down the rest of the reg season.. :notworthy Yay for Dontrelle (if he gets it) :notworthy
September 24, 200521 yr I honestly don't know if Dontrelle will win the Cy Young. While he has the record and the ERA, he doesn't have the K's or the playoff team that Carpenter has. Ultimately, those may make the difference.
September 24, 200521 yr if onlyu we cold have one that absolute implosion game against the phils... dtrain would be a shoe in, but if he has one last good start and carp has anothe bad one then i like the dtrains chances GO DONTRELLE!

Ultimately, those may make the difference. 2003, the Rookie of the Year voting comes down to Brandon Webb and Dontrelle Willis. D Train pitched poorly in the second half, Webb had slightly better stats, and the analysts said Webb was better. Why did Dontrelle win ROY? Even though intangibles aren't supposed to be considered when voting for awards, the voting panel took into consideration his humble attitude and energetic demeanor. That's why he won then, and that's why he'll win now.

His amazing base running (again, what other pitcher do you see sliding in head first.. numerous times). His amazing bat (DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN?) His ability to go deep into games. The way he just changes the face of the game when he's on the mound! The guy is just amazing! And to top it off, he's an amazing person, with a great attitude. All these things can't be said for Carpenter. EDT: PLus his stats are better. Pfft.
