October 3, 200521 yr I'll tell you this - if they schedule it right, it would be an "automatic sellout".
October 3, 200521 yr I'm not for retiring his number, but perhaps something else that leaves a lasting memory would be more appropriate. Maybe a statue or a bust?

October 3, 200521 yr RETIRE JACK'S NUMBER???????? Wow, I think you need to come back when you're not crying from this afternoon and actually have your mind controlling your body isntead of your feelings. Retiring numbers, at least to me, is something HUGE and it should only be done for a big-time, hall of fame type player or coach. Jack Mckeon was only here 3 seasons. Sure, he had a magical season in 2003 but he led 2 underachieving teams after and lost control of this 2005 team... The Miami Heat retired Michael Jordan's number Don't remind me. That was truly one of the dumbest things ever.
October 3, 200521 yr Wait a couple of years when Jack starts to bash the FO for penny pinching and forcing him out, and bash his players for not listening to him, and bash his fellow coaches for not getting Lowell to hit, AJ to be consistent, Cabrera to show up for meetings, etc. Then tell me you want to retire his number after 3 years with the team. How dare you even insinuate that McKeon will criticize this team. He had his chances, many times during the year, and even on the way out to throw players into the fire, but he took the high-road. He could have fired back at Pierre saying to the PB Post that McKeon was a big part of the problem. He could have ripped AJ a new one publically after all AJ said about McKeon's coaching style. He could have even called out Beinfest in the paper saying that the pieces you gave me didn't work. He didn't do any of those things; he took the high-road and accepted the blame for the season's disappointment, and he did something no other manager has done when he stepped down for the Marlins, he walked away from three consecutive winning seasons, and still felt as if he let the fans and ownership down. You're trying to turn McKeon into a pariah for the season he had, but really, the man should be rememberd as a messiah for this franchise. :thumbdown
October 3, 200521 yr As much as I love Trader Jack, I still don't think it's appropriate to retire his number. I think people are caught up in the romance of it all.
