October 10, 200521 yr Astros Install Pond in Outfield to Give Minute Maid Park Some Character Hoping to give their bland, cookie cutter ballpark a bit of flare before the playoffs begin, the Houston Astros installed a 40-by-190-foot pond in the outfield of Minute Maid Park on Monday. ?Sure, our left field fence is only Little League distance from home plate. And sure, we have a pointless, manmade hill with a flagpole stuck in it in centerfield. And sure, we have a giant choo-choo train drives around the perimeter of the field, but the novelty of that stuff has worn off since we opened the stadium six years ago,? said Houston general manager Tim Purpura. ?It was time to change things up a little bit again.? The giant pond, which is also 40-feet deep and contains eight adult alligators, sits in right-centerfield and will present an interesting challenge to pitchers and outfielders during the Astros-Braves National League divisional series that begins this afternoon. http://www.sportspickle.com/features/volum...005-astros.html
October 10, 200521 yr Sportspickle is funny, but calling MinuteMaid "bland and ugly" when the Cardinals play in the only true cookie cutter left(well, besides RFK) is just dumb.

October 11, 200521 yr Sportspickle is funny, but calling MinuteMaid "bland and ugly" when the Cardinals play in the only true cookie cutter left(well, besides RFK) is just dumb. The whole article has tongue firmly planted in cheek. Are you really that dumb?
October 11, 200521 yr I'd like to see a moat around a stadium, with fans having to cross one of those drop down wooden bridges that would be up in front of the main gate. Maybe people on each side of the bridge playing midevil music and selling roast pig, maybe a joust.
October 11, 200521 yr Sportspickle is funny, but calling MinuteMaid "bland and ugly" when the Cardinals play in the only true cookie cutter left(well, besides RFK) is just dumb. It's called irony. See, as a baseball fan, we know that Minute Maid is ridiculous. Between the train, the train whistles after runs, the hill, the flag-pole in play, the crawford boxes, the Dr. Pepper vending machine looking things out in left...well, you get the point. That's why the swimming pool is being presented, you know, to complete the mini-golf course feel. They could have gone with a laughing clown head up the middle, but instead they chose the alligator filled pond... Tomorrow's lesson will be on sarcasm, but until then, you take care of yourself. :thumbup
