We got him

Featured Replies

Why don't we throw some ungodly amount of money (5 million a year? I'll donate!) to Leo Mazzone?

I can dream.....

I was thinking the exact same thing. We've got a ton of young pitchers and he's the best pitching coach in baseball. If by some fluke we got Mazzone, I think this team would be scary good.Wouldn't the Braves have to give us permission to talk to him? (which would NEVER happen)Yeah :confused

...

How soon before we start coming up with '06 slogans?

Mine: '06: Cut the crap and WIN

You got my vote.

Was the news conference on the radio? If so did anyone listen to it?

It's on the Marlins web-site, no video, just audio.

A few highlights:

Said that he is here for one thing, to win.

Gushed about Willis, Beckett and Cabrera.

He likes the youth on the team because he says that youth brings energy.

Wants to push the players to play through minor injuries, adopting the Don Baylor style of you have to see the manager to get out of the lineup, not the trainer.

He said that he's going to put pressure on the other team through hit and run and steals, doesn't want to play for the 3 run homer.

No confirmation on the staff yet, aside from Hill.

Girardi said that he's glad Perry Hill will be back, calling him the best in the business.

Said that Torre allowed him to be very hands on last year, saying that Torre often asked Girardi for input on managerial decisions, which leads him to say that he's "been managing" in that capacity and as a catcher for a long time.

Puts a big emphasis on putting players in a position to succeed, doesn't want to force people into uncomfortable situations.

Said that Loria is a great owner and that he will "do all he can to give me the players I need."

:thumbup

I heard Girardi on the LeBatard show. Very impressive, gave all the right answers

Playing in big markets will teach you how to do that, quickly.

Am I wrong or did the flagship station of the Florida Marlins not cover the Girardi press conference?

I was listening to it on 790 and I checked on QAM and Neil was doing his usual rant. Did they broadcast any of it?

I think the WQAM-Marlins contract is up, but will likely be renewed. No excuse for WQAM not to cover the Press Conference.
