Yep, just reported on 790's Sports Flash. Girardi is in!

Was there ever a doubt?

Not going to say "good signing" because I think the jury's out, but I think it's great to have it out of the way, and certainly, good luck to Girardi.

Girardi set to become next Marlins manager

Joe Girardi is ''very close'' to reaching an agreement to become the Marlins' next manager, according to sources close to the negotiations. An announcement could be made later today.

Sources said Girardi, 41, has made up his mind to take the job.

CBS-4 also is reporting that Girardi will be the next Marlins manager.

Girardi, who has no managing experience, spent the past season serving as bench coach for the New York Yankees under manager Joe Torre.

He was one of more than a half-dozen candidates to interview with the Marlins. Girardi also interviewed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who are conducting their own manager search.

Girardi would replace Jack McKeon, who stepped down at the end of the season.

loria always gets his man

I guess Vlad wasn't his man, then.

Good one :D but MLB kept htat from happening mostly when he wanted to trade for him.

Was there ever a doubt?

yup, there were doubts

Not according to Lefty Power, who repeatedly stated Girardi was in the bag. :thumbup

I agree, I'm cautiously optimistic on this one. Hope it pays off

THAAAAAAAA MARLINS GET GIRARDI...... THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MARLINS GET GIRARDI.. THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MARLINS GET GIRARDI

I agree. Gets the big distraction out of the way so now we can focus on getting/keeping players. As far as Girardi goes, good luck to him, but from my point of view, it's really hard to evaluate him with hardly any coaching experience to go by.

Congrats to Girardi, i think it is a good signing....it will be intresting to see if they get Zimmer, Baylor and Galaraga to come down here with him...

lolol

Looks like many of us are happy, but not totally thrilled. I think it's because of the back and forth Girardi has been doing with the Marlins... the fact that he actually thought about not taking the job just so he could wait for his "dream job" could open up sometime in the near future.

For me, that's the key to the whole thing.

A staff that has Zimmer, Baylor, Galarraga and Stottlemyre could be exceptional.
