Abercrombie dominating AFL

Featured Replies

Something unique happened to Reggie Abercrombie on Oct. 10 -- he went hitless.

It was so unique because it was the first time the 25-year-old outfielder was draped with an 0-fer all season. Abercrombie has hit in 13 of his 14 games with the Grand Canyon Rafters, including a current 10-game hitting streak, to build a .357 batting average. He also put together a pair of three-RBI efforts on Oct. 21 and Oct. 25.

Abercrombie isn't the only Marlins farmhand streaking lately. Here's how the other five prospects fared:

RHP Nic Ungs: Ungs has been solid in all four starts, but it took until Oct. 25 for the 26-year-old to pick up his first decision. He allowed one run on four hits over five innings in a 10-3 victory over the Phoenix Desert Dogs, lowering his ERA to a sparkling 1.06.

RHP Logan Kensing: Kensing added four more shutout innings last week to continue a refreshing stretch. After giving up nine runs in two innings to begin his AFL season, Kensing has made five straight scoreless appearances, making his 11.57 ERA a bit deceptive.

LHP Taylor Tankersley: Tankersley (2-1) picked up his second win with a perfect ninth inning as Grand Canyon edged Surprise, 5-4, on Oct. 26. The 22-year-old also hurled two scoreless frames against the Javelinas on Oct. 22.

SS Robert Andino: Andino had a six-game hitting streak snapped on Oct. 18 and had endured a dreadful cold spell since, picking up just one hit in 20 at-bats. He did, however, bounce back with a 3-for-5 effort against Surprise on Oct. 27.

2B Josh Wilson: Wilson rediscovered the long ball last week. The 24-year-old crushed two-run blasts in consecutive games on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. He added a three-hit game against the Phoenix Desert Dogs on Oct. 24. Overall, Wilson is batting .279 with two homers and nine RBIs in 12 games.

I want no one to replace Pierre....keep the guy.

How about that. "Fitch-less" went hitless quite a few times while in Jupiter; nice to see him get into some groove. Here's to hoping he keeps it up.

And, Mr. Prin -- he played outfield for both the Heads and Cats, but usually in center.

I want Millege to replace Pierre.

If he keeps striking out at the rate he did in Birmingham he'd strikeout 200+ a season in the MLs. He's Adam Dunn without the power.
