November 22, 200520 yr http://www.gothambaseball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1513 The Mets' pursuit of Billy Wagner may have paid off, as several sources are saying a deal could be announced as soon as tomorrow. Mets GM Omar Minaya has apparently offered a four-year, $40 million contract to Wagner, a deal that the Phillies are not expected to match.
November 22, 200520 yr Idiotic to give any closer a 40 million dollar contract But then again Mets do need one pretty bad...I guess
November 22, 200520 yr Amazing.. 10 mil for a closer. Wagner is a stud tho and money isn't worry for the Mets... so a good move for them.
November 22, 200520 yr Just what we expected from the Mets this off-season......plenty of $$$ to throw around.
November 22, 200520 yr The mets are so stupid with so many closers out there I dont see the need to offer him 10 mil for 4 yrs so soon, because you know he's goingt to wait and see if he maybe get that to the 45-50 mil or get another yr in there. I dont know how you could pay someone who might not play for a week 10 million.....
November 22, 200520 yr Author An interesting move by the Mets, they have a press conference scheduled today for Billy Wagner -- and he reportedly hasn't signed yet. I've never heard of that before, a press conference to welcome a player to the city?
November 22, 200520 yr Mets had to sign Wagner as there's no one else out there. Now they need to sign more middle relievers
