rferry
Conine can sign with the Marlins for no more than 80% of his 2005 wage before May 1st. So that's $2.4M at the very least.

Admin
that leftfielder is sooo hawt Except for the fact that he sucks. And if we trade for Milledge I will get the pleasure of seeing W-ham never start in LF. And I'll be happy.

Don't you have some KKK convention to attend now?
Admin
I am not in the KKK. I am not a racist. I despise Nazi and aryian nation types. I cant smoke weed because I have to take drug tests. And I dont consider myself a drunk...although others do. You did get the midwestern part right though. And I am not a crier Moneyball, I did cry the other day when I came home from the pub, but not sure what that was all about. Anyhow, the personal insults really arent called for, but have at it if it makes you feel better.
rferry
Conine can sign with the Marlins for no more than 80% of his 2005 wage before May 1st. So that's $2.4M at the very least. Why? Rules from Collective Bargaining to protect players from severe cuts in pay and the salaries of players in general from staying even. We dealt with this before with Chad Fox, who might not have even been able to pitch again and opted to try it with the Cubs on a minor league deal because we refused to give him a guaranteed contract over $1M which would have slashed his pay by no more than 20%. Look for the same thing to happen with Preston Wilson this year. He just completed the final year of a 8-figure contract, and will soon receive offers atleast half that size and well within range of former club. However the rules prevent his re-signing between the date of the arbitration deadline and the completion of the first month of the next season. Lane1974
So are we done cutting payroll? are you insane? anyone who makes anything will be dealt. There is no reason to keep anyone now. They are not in this to win, they are now in this to keep as much profit as possible, after losing money the prior few years. They gambled that by investing in the product it would pay off in a new stadium deal - they won a frigging world series to no avail. Thus, they will go out there with Cabrera, Willis, and 8 other new players.
Guest markotsay7
This is now a 50 wins team. I have to disagree and I'd still be looking for 70-75 wins next year. You're gonna have Willis out there every 5th day, you're gonna have Cabrera, Hermida, and who knows who else. But it isn't like we've got absolute nobodies playing. We have guys who are ballyhooed prospects who by all accounts are either ready or almost ready for the major leagues. IMO the key to not having a lost season is keeping Castillo. Pierre, LoDuca, Mota...trade whomever, but Castillo is an absolute bargain and is a necessary piece to this team.
PBMarlin
Moving Delgado takes us down to around $41M, depending upon how much of the $7M is due this year. That includes $4M for a closer (Jones?). I would hope the team is about where it needs to be and will now hang on to Pierre, LoDuca and Castillo.....but again that totally depends on what value we can get in return. We've lost a lot for 2006, but the future is bright.
Admin
If Resop is the closer of the future might as well give him a chance next year. I mean honestly, a $4 mil closer will not help much. Think Pierre and Mota would get us Murton, if Pierre and Mota say they will sign extensions with the Cubs?

I hope we can hold on to the Duke unless we get a tremendous offer for him. I like the veteran leadership that Luis, Conine and LoDuca will provide. :thumbup
