It is amazing the amount of arrogance people on this forum show if you do not agree with them.

Arrogance to you=demanding rational basis for a view.

Flying Mollusk you are the most arrogant poster in the "bullpen" you do not tolerate other views and you address people who disagree with you in a very condescending way. To assume your views are mainstream views is laughable , you are an extreme left winger which makes it easier for you to label someone who disagrees with you as a conservative. If i was a conservative I would gladly admit it , I am registered independent I have voted both democrat and republican and sometimes I dont think either party has fielded a good candidate so i write in a vote or vote for a third party. My question is since you determine what is mainstream have you ever voted for someone who is a not in your party ??

The thought police is out in full force , I will address only Buckeye's point marriage is not a right , the federal government does not guarantee a right to marriage because it happens in a courthouse does not make it a right. I am sure there are plenty of people who would like to be married but are not but by raising the "courthouse"(which court house?) you play right into my point about marriage being a states right issue. Marriage requires different criteria to be met in different states. For example is some states you have to be 18, have a blood test, while in other states you can be 16 and have no blood test. States have always regulated marriage and the only time when the federal government has gotten involved in marriage is to restrict the defintion of marriage was in Utah in the late 1800's . Rights are are defined in the constitution and bill of right please tell me exactly where is the RIGHT to marry ...thanks in advance

Fine and dandy. Tell me where you are allowed to discriminate against two adults due to their sexual orientation?

You are dealing with apples and oranges...the marriage restrictions are in place to determine whether or not someone is a consenting adult. The blood test is a matter of public health, not exactly a huge issue.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me where its ok to discriminate against someone based on their sexual orientation. You know that whole freedom of expression thing.

Like I said, when the Federal government started to change the rules on married couples as opposed to single people in regards to federal income taxes it became a federal issue and one where you cannot restrict these benefits to others based on their sexual orientation. You know those civil rights acts, especially the amendments made in 1991...it basically says that you cant discriminate based on seuxal orientation.

A conservative is more a mindset of political beliefs more than a political party, its just that we have come to define conservatives as Republicans and liberals as Democrats, mostly because we as a society are lazy.

Im sorry I upset you IrishHarrington.

Its not. 14th amendment: No state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. Of course the states sometimes deny equal protection of the law, such as when they give tickets to only those drives who go over the speed limit(also the earlier example irishharrington brought up). But they must present a substantial interest in doing so(here safety of drivers) and their solution has to be narrowly tailored to fit that interest. For certain discrimination-race, religion...the discrimination has to be justified by a very very compelling interest and has to be as narrlowly tailored as possible-called strict scrutiny. Unfortunatley the court has never read gays to be in this level of protection(and women are in a level betwen the two). But the state, under the lower test, still has to present a valid interest and it still has to be narrowly tailored. This is why states have been passing the amendments, moreso because they dont want to get it from their own state constitution, which usually has these equal protection clauses. But it is in fact a right.

5th amendment applies the same principle to federal govt.

I am not upset it is just hard to take seriously someone as rude as you clearly you do not wish to engage in a civil discussion. You clearly believe rights exist in the bill or rights that arent there thats your choice. All I can say is good luck on your crusade .....later

Come on man, you are supporting a view that denies a vast amount of people rights. It is hard to take you seriously when for no reason at all you think it's alright to discriminate against a group of people. Das Texan's been asking for three pages for one single reason why you and people with the same views as you think it's okay to do that, and there hasn't been even one attempt to answer. All you do is bounce around the question and insist marriage is not a right. Even if marriage isn't a right, which I think is a ridiculous thing to believe, why is it a "privilege" let's call it that should be granted to straight people and not to gay people?

Any peice of trash can get married. It's not longer a religious institution. It's only authentic when the state give you the peice of paper that changes your taxes and insurance status.

Let's say two gay dudes (because let's face it, everyone hates gay dudes but loves lesbians :shifty ) get married. One of them dies and the other guy DOESN'T get compensated for that loss if it falls under the insurance plan because they're not married. That's not right. Especially if they own a house that requires both of their incomes or anything else of value that needs payment through bills.

You're only upset with Mollusk because he has beaten you, textually, time and time again. He has never been rude in any of his posts yet. Get over it.

Give me a legit reasons gays shouldn't marry. A legit reason, please.

That's not a reason. Quit begging the question!

Nobody's used the easily defensible position that "Gay people go to hell" yet, though EITHER!

*gets sad*
