Brian Giles to San Diego for Oliver Perez, Xavier Nady, and a minor leaguer....NO JASON KENDALL: As per Baseball Tonight, the long rumoured deal will be announced tomorrow. Particulars are still being sorted out. Take it for what its worth, but they usually dont run with a story unless its pretty solid.

Padres could be "sikc" next season

Great deal for both teams. Nady is a very good hitter and Perez is a good pitcher and they are both young.

Bucs might have gotten raped.

If we dont sweep this team, we suck.

i hate the trade if im a Pirates fan....

Kendall should have been shipped out with Giles... it should have been a package deal....

Giles is too good and reasonably cheap to just be "traded"

I hope the Pads aren't expecting to contend next year. As the Pirates showed us, it takes more than Giles to win ballgames. If they get another bat as big as Giles they might have a small chance to contend, but they aren't going to. The question for them is whether they will be able to finish anywhere near .500.

Ramp you beat me to it, but I'll add a few things. One the Padres were afraid the Pirates lose interest in Oliver Perez. It appears he fastball has drop has drop from the mid 90's to 89-92mph in his last start. Two the Pirates had there hands tied because Giles only wanted to go to a west coast team but I'm surprise that Kendall was not included. I think Littlefield is going to be fried for this one because I agree not enough in return.

um....

arent Klesko and Nevin big bats?

And I understand the Padres are looking for a big free agent signee this offseason...perhaps Tejada or that Japenese shortstop.

I don't know guys, I wouldn't mind this trade if I was a Pirates fan and I knew we were rebuilding. Perez is just what, 21-years-old. This year in the minors (AAA) he has a 3.02 ERA in 47 IP and 48 K. Nady is an advanced hitter and is hitting over .300 with a few HRs this year in limited AAA at bats. They are both pretty much major league ready. Nady can play multiple positions and projects to hit for a good average and 40 HRs.

I know Nady hit just .253 with 7 HR in 300 ABs this year in the majors, but he was a rookie and will get much better. I also know Perez has a 5 something ERA this year in 100 IP in the majors, but given his age he will get a whole lot better.

The Pirates held the best hand for hte most part....

They did not need to trade Giles.

But they blinked and allowed the Padres to not take back Kendall.

Nady and Perez are nice....but nowhere near equal value to Giles.

Should of tried to take at least another top level prospect in the Padre system.

If I was a Pirate fan I would be very upset with this trade. The Pirates have traded away Giles, Ramirez, Loften, Williams, and Sauerbeck for a bunch of Minor leaguers and the Major League Ks king. Has Littlefield been drinking lately?

I hope the Pads aren't expecting to contend next year.

they are moving into a new ballpark and they will try to get Millwood, or Vazuez or Colon in the offseason....

a lineup that consists of Giles, Nevin, Kotsay, Klesko, Burroughs, Loretta could be lethal.... if Rondell White comes back and/or they get a catcher who can hit(Ojeda may be good, but I mean a vet)

i expect the Padres to be legitimate contenders next year

the Pirates really should have insisted that Kendall be included in any deal.

I think the Marlins gave more to get Urbina than the Pirates have gotten in return for all of their trades combined...

well at least for the most part of their trades

I hope Melbourne-boy Bruce Bochy doesn't get fired.

Well if Bochy is fired....

I wouldnt mind having him here.

Fine manager.
