74 yealr old fart not supposed to afford anything but Social Security? If along his life he (assuming s.s. doesn't exist) took the same amount of money taken out his paycheck every week for social security and put it in a retirement fund separate from the government not only would he still see that money later but he would enjoy greater benefits since the government dones't let the money grow and mature. In another retirement fund it would be invested and just on minimum you could expect at least 2 fold back, more often than not three or four fold of your investment. With the government you get less than what you put in because you have to pay taxes on it when you take it out.

yes and how many 74 year olds were taught the ideas of saving for their retirement.....

put yourself in their shoes.

they always assumed the government would take care of them, especially after the depression.

Exactly. If there is no social security, or if it would have been a temporary thing, America wouldn't have gotten lazy and relied on a big government to solve their problems. Instead they let the sacred cow live, and the we just let the world turn. When the country is turned upside down don't come running to me. Because I'll have 4 words for you:

I Told You So

that 74 year old "fart" i was talking about is my grandpa who's worked his a** off in this country in factories, working as a janitor in schools, supermarkets to be able to support his family as an immigrant, my 70 year old grandma can barely walk from all the time she worked in factories. they didnt come here and mooch off the govt, they worked hard. and without they're SS they would be in a lot of trouble, it barely pays them in the first place. and now my grandpa might need a heart surgery that he would not be able to afford on his own. so respect youre elders, and realize that there are people out there who need help from the govt.

like i said.....

social security and medicare would be in fine shape if not for the rapings those accounts have gotten in the past 20 years mostly.

i am never going to see a damn dime.

which sucks.

while we are at it....lets just stop paying taxes also.

Well, my grandparents went through the same. In Cuba they were one of the richer families in Havana. They came to Miami, with 0. Nothing. Licenses to practice medicine and law were forfeit, just a worthless piece of paper. They did things the same way your grandparents did. Only differnce? They knew (Evem nefore Das' rapings) not to trust Social Security. So they invested privately. And now the one that is left can pay everything and works only because you know how old people are and the "needed" thing.

And no Das, even without the rapings. Social Security would have provided, sure. But if they would have taken the same money under the own initiative and invested it (same amount and everything) they would have gotten more guaranteed. Thats what social security and the rest of these big governments do. They slowly take away people's initiative to do things on their own because they don't have to anymore. And people wonder why society sucks.....

things happen in life sometimes that im not going to elaborate on, which doesnt always allow you to save money the way you would want. they saved money, but things happen

well, I mean things happen. But, unfortunately the federal government can't and don't worry about individuals....Bush has no idea how I feel about him, or what Joe Blo down the street feels about anything. He cares about the country as a whole (or at least should). People will slip through the cracks. That's why less emphasis needs to be put on the federal government (thanks a lot FDR...not), and placed on the state and local govts.

You know, outside of Social Secuirty (which is a huge areuement in of itself) you still haevn't told me what good FDR really did for this country.

I'll be back tomorrow, in Belen you need your sleep to survive.

OK first off the country was in huges mess that was left over by George Bush Senior. The Nation uneployment rate reach 7.5 which was the highest it has been eight years at the time, with record layoffs in some communities. The Economy was Stagnant.Middle class families were working harder for less money which was firect effect from inflation that happen during George Senior Administration.Because losing a job meant losing the family?s health insurance, middle class families could lose their savings, their homes or become trapped in a broken welfare system trying to cover health costs.A broken welfare system made virtually impossible for families in welfare system back to work. The 1996 welfare reform tranform the system into a more efficient program.

Here some facts:

*There were 13.6 million people on welfare when President Clinton came to office 5.5 percent of the population.

Under the Clinton-Gore Administration, the welfare rolls have been cut by nearly 60 percent to the lowest level since 1968, dropping to 5.8 million people or 2.1 percent of the population. Today, most recipients are expected to work, millions of parents have left welfare for jobs, and a record 33 percent of current welfare recipients are now working ? five times as many as in 1992.

*More than 2.5 million children have received health insurance as a result of the enactment of the historic State Children?s Health Insurance Program in 1997 ? the largest expansion of health insurance for children since the creation of the Medicaid program.

*Most New Jobs Ever Created Under a Single Administration: The economy has created more than 22.5 million jobs in less than eight years?the most jobs ever created under a single administration, and more than were created in the previous 12 years. Of the total new jobs, 20.7 million, or 92 percent, are in the private sector.

*Strong Economic Growth-The economy has grown for 116 consecutive months, the most in history.

*Median Family Income Up $6,000 since 1993: Economic gains have been made across the spectrum as family incomes increased for all Americans.

*Unemployment at Its Lowest Level in More than 30 Years: Overall unemployment has dropped to the lowest level in more than 30 years, down from 6.9 percent in 1993 to just 4.0 percent in November 2000.

*Lowest Inflation since the 1960s: Inflation is at the lowest rate since the Kennedy Administration, averaging 2.5 percent, and it is down from 4.7 percent during the previous administration.

*Highest Homeownership Rate on Record: The homeownership rate reached 67.7 percent for the third quarter of 2000, the highest rate on record

*7 Million Fewer Americans Living in Poverty: The poverty rate has declined from 15.1 percent in 1993 to 11.8 percent last year, the largest six-year drop in poverty in nearly 30 years

*Largest Surplus Ever: The surplus in FY 2000 is $237 billion?the third consecutive surplus and the largest surplus ever.

*300 Trade Agreements: President Clinton has opened markets for U.S. exports abroad and created American jobs through nearly 300 free and fair trade agreements.

*The Most U.S. Exports Ever. Between 1992 and 2000, U.S. exports of goods and services grew by 74 percent, or nearly $500 billion, to top $1 trillion for the first time.

And the list goes on and on..I can be here all day putting together what Bill Clinton accomplishments in his eight years tenure.Bill Clinton Tenure was Eight Years of Peace, Progress

and Prosperity.

FDR and Truman combine to beat The Japanese. Reagan is a major reason why we are not in the Cold War today. Teddy did wonders for the environment. And people say Clinton? This is a sign to the fact that not only is the country uneducated but has the attention span of a flea.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Let me educate you.........Please see post below.

I don't have time to repeat myself about the economics of this, its too early in the morning. But he was president during a time of piece? When he sent troops every which way? When he couldn't solve the Middle East problem even though he was trying hard because he wanted to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize? There was sure peace in Somalia, one of the stupidest calls ever made by a president.

You think there was "peace" because we didn't do as much as George the son has done against terrorism. But you obviously oh so conventially forget the month at a time bombings of Baghdad every night because of the same nuclear weapons Bush went in to get. Thats right, the whole idea came from the Clinton administration. The situation was the same, yet let me ask you: WTF is bombing the city going to accomplish besides killing a few civilians? Nothing.

What has he done? When after Iraq?Al-Queda Netowrk is still lurking around and Osama Bin Laden is still alive. What was his real accomplishment after going for Iraq?Create more hatred towards U.S in the Arab Nations that will only spread the word of Osama extreme Islam. Is only going to cost the U.S so 9 billions in hopes of restructuring Iraq.George Bush had no real justification for the war and is bad enough there no weapons of mass destruction anywhere.

Where are so call Biological weapons? How did 9/11 give permission to Bush go after Iraq?If there was no link between Al-Queda and Saddam. What George Bush real motivation behind this war? Most of the people know the truth.

Why he couldn't solve Middle East problem?Well get a clue man.A peace treated is virtually impossible in that region.

I believe when Clinton bombed Iraq it was with the UN's blessing.

And this event in Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism. It was about vindication. I have no problems with going after Al-Quada and supported those measures. But Saddam and Osama are in no way linked together.

Al-Queda Netowrk is still lurking around and Osama Bin Laden is still alive.

Is this Bush's fault? Is Bush going into the caves in Afghanistan looking for Osama? Is he telling the military what caves to go to? No. Gore, Bush, FDR, whoever...no one would have done any better.

No but is his fault for shifting direction towards war with Iraq even though U.S is having trouble finding Al-Queda high ranking officials.Attacking Iraq hurt the U.S foreign relation with just about every country. Not to mention how help feed the Anti-American Arab Nation. How dumb was that move?Is like Feeding coal to the fire. There was no reason to rush into a war with Iraq without completing the main threat right now to the U.S which is the Al-Queda network.

Oh, poor babies. We hurt the foreign relationships, oh my goodness. Cry me a f***ing river. What has France done for me lately? Check that. What has France done for me, ever? WW1? They got b*tch slapped back to Paris before the doughboys stepped in and sent the Germans home. WW2? The French's Finest hour, which is about how long it took the Nazis to walk around the Maginot Line and take Paris. Vietnam? We originally got involved to help the French. Yeah thanks for nothing. And what do they do for us? criticize. b*tch. Moan. Complain.

The most important country in Europe as far as foreign policy is concerned is the UK because all the other ones think exactly the same as each other. France, Germany, and Spain always come to the same freaking conclusions. Russia just doesn't like the US anyways, even though they are quick to not say anything along those lines. The UK thinks for itself, never siding all the time with either the US or Europe.

And what do you think, they aren't gonna trade with us anymore? If they don't trade with us they don't survive, simple as that. What are they going to do, bomb us? We'll knock them back to the Paleolithic if they ever try something. We'll get medieval on their asses. If they don't agree, they can just lift their noses and say they are higher class than us. When in reality Europe is built on trivial conflicts that erupted into full scale wars. So yeah, they know all about these kinds of battles and stuff.

Why do people insist on holding us to the European guidelines? We own the Europeans. We beat the British to secure independence. The British tried again in 1812, we won. We beat the Spanish. We've beaten the Germans twice, saving the rest of Europe in the process. The only soldiers we have problems with have pointy eyes and speak Vietnamese.

So remind me again why the Europeans are so much better than us that they decide whether or not we do something?

Juanky,

Spain and Portugal were part of the coalition that went to war in Iraq.

US, UK, Australia, Poland, Spain, Portugal, etc. Most eastern European countries came into the coalition right before the war started, but the Democrats seem to overlook that fact.

I wasn't referring to just this "war", I was talking about in general since WW2.

Reagan.

He transformed conservatism from an intellectual movement into a political revolution.

He exposed the bankruptcy of modern liberalism and proved that true liberty is still a fighting faith.

Americans of every class, rich, middle-class, and poor, saw their wealth increase. It was our nation's longest peacetime expansion in a long and prosperous history.

He moved toward a tax system that rewards accomplishment and effort rather than punishing these things.

But thats only my opinion.
