ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The wife of Representative C.W. Bill Young says she was ejected during President Bush's State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that says, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom."

That's according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Beverly Young says she was sitting in the front row of the House gallery Tuesday night when she was approached by someone who told her she needed to leave.

She says she reluctantly agreed, but argued with several officers in an outside hallway.

In a telephone interview with the newspaper, Young said she told them her shirt wasn't a protest but a message of support.

Capitol Police Sergeant Kimberly Schneider says Young wasn't ejected from the gallery and she left on her own. She couldn't provide additional details.

Young's husband is a Republican from Indian Shores. He found out about the incident after Bush's speech and called it unacceptable.

I guess as long as they are quashing the first amendment on both sides of the aisle it's okay. This woman was not arrested however, and from all reports Sheehan was more than cooperative according to the officers on the scene, but she was arrested.

no its not. our founding fathers worked diligently to afford us the rights given in the first amendment. Just because we have some now saying that well as long as we are being fair of our abolishment of the first amendment then its ok. bulls***. The Bill of Rights are being destroyed bit by bit. Before you know it we are just going to be better off burning them in a blaze of glory.

Oh and it gets better. She also got in a verbal confrontation with the Capitol Police

She was sitting about six rows from first lady Laura Bush and asked to leave. She argued with police in the hallway outside the House chamber.

"They said I was protesting," she told the St. Petersburg Times. "I said, "Read my shirt, it is not a protest.' They said, 'We consider that a protest.' I said, 'Then you are an idiot.'"

They told her she was being treated the same as Sheehan, a protester ejected before the speech Tuesday night for wearing a T-shirt with an antiwar slogan.

Still she walked out of there without the cuffs. :mischief2

"Then you are an idiot."

I don't even know what to say to this.

Sheehan rolled out a huge banner protesting the war and all that so even though some of us may disagree about her getting arrested, it's at the very least understandable why she was thrown out, but all this other woman did was have a t-shirt on that said SUPPORT THE TROOPS. How is "support the troops" considered protesting? It's baffling.

What's next, not being allowed to park your car in a government parking lot because you have a yellow ribbon sticker?

It's disgusting no matter which viewpoint you look at it from.

That was the report early on, but it seemed to have been debunked later. All she did was apparently wear a black long sleeved shirt with white print of the number of US Troops to die on it during the Iraq Conflict and perhaps refused to cover it up, but that depends on the report you read.

bottom line...

why was one arrested and the other not?

Hell if I know.

No one should have been arrested.

i agree.

and i hope she sues.

According to her diary on DailyKos, she had unzipped her jacket to reveal the shirt because it was a little warm, and that if they requested her to put her jacket back on, she would have. Also, she said she is talking to lawyers about filing a lawsuit.

Also, she said she is talking to lawyers about filing a lawsuit.

Nice

I believe she was successful in suing a police department in an earlier incident, (where she was arrested unnecessarily) under Title 42, Section 1983-Civil Action for Deprivation of Rights and got nominal damages rewarded to her.

I bet thats where they're looking into again
