Girardi talks about D-Train getting roughed up in WBC

Featured Replies

Girardi said his heart skipped a beat when he saw Miguel Cabrera get hit on the hand by a pitch in the World Baseball Classic on Monday.

''I got real nervous,'' he said. ``I think the whole organization got real nervous when we saw that, but we were all real happy when he got up.

``I think that's every manager's and every organization's concern about this -- even though it's great for baseball -- our concern is someone getting injured.''

Girardi also is aware that his ace Dontrelle Willis has been getting roughed up while pitching in the WBC.

''I don't make much of pitching in spring training,'' Girardi said. ``I don't think [the bad outings] are rough on him, because I think he feels it's an honor to be there.

``I think he wanted to be there, or he wouldn't have left.''

When I saw the ball hit Miguel and him grimacing in pain as he flexed hand while sitting on the ground, I got nervous. Instant replay showed, thankfully, that the ball's momentum was slowed as it ricocheted off of his chest and then hit his hand.

always a scare when players play winter ball or events like these, but i am glad nothing happened with Cabby. As for D-Train its nothing to worry about he'll bounce back Opening Day

Im not saying The Don has been all that sharp at WBC but he has been

the victim of some horrible defense (Yes you Mark Texiera among others), and thats not mentioning run support either.

Nothing Dontrelle hasn't seen before.
