did anyone see the attendance for Mondays Yankees game? 8k! No, this is no typo in a box score. I saw it on SportsCenter.

I would think the fact that the game was a make-up from a rainout is one of the main reasons the attendance was so low. Couple that with MNF and the beginning of the work week as well.

Make up's are not an excuse, The Phillies/ BO Sox Labor Day game was a makeup and that game had great attendance and it was even bobblehead day at Yankee Stadium.

low attendance for the yankees is 20k....not 8k....you're telling me that the biggest market in the U.S. with one of the best teams in baseball can't put out more than 8k in a makeup game? B.S.

Attendance is overrated. The stadium lease is what makes $$$$$$.

attendance is what leads to revenue from concessions, parking, souviners(sp)

If you are paying 12 millions a year and recieving only 5% of stadium revenues with about 14,000 per game, wouldn't you make more money paying 12 million a year and getting 50% of gameday revenues with the same attendance?

average ticket again is 10 bucks.

But the better lease will help you more than a sudden influx of fans because it doesn't handcuff you and allows for more profit per fan.

the skyboxes are not part of the Marlins lease and those give the most money of anything in the sports business. The dolphins get all the skybox money. Skyboxes are paid for whether used or not.

Skyboxes are the cash cow of sports.

 

A better lease, like I have been saying, means more skybox money which we don't get right now. Skyboxes are long term leases and they get the money whether people are there or not.

i would venture to say that there are more stadiums that lease skyboxes for less than 10 years than there are those that lease them for 10 years + at one time.

The PPs skyboxes are leased for 10 year terms. The MArlins get $0 of that. If the Marlins got 25 percent of that, that would be a new source of revenue for the team, not PPS and could change the way this team's finances are. That is my argument, the attendance has nothing to do with the skybox revenue we are missing out on.

Yeah - there was one bad day of attendance due to extraordinary circumstances. Big whoop. The A's are lucky to have 9,000 fans after in 7th inning in ANY game.

Just an interesting fact: In 7 games aginst the Devil Rays in Tampa, the series has drawn a grand total of 63,569 fans. Unless my math fails me, that works out to an AVERAGE of 9,081 for the season series.
