Pitching matchup

COL: LHP Jeff Francis (0-2, 5.16 ERA)

After casting about through his first three starts, Francis was at his best Sunday, giving up one run on four hits through 6 2/3 innings in a game the Rockies won in extra innings. He used his changeup effectively, consistently fooling the Giants with it, and he had command of all his pitches, taking an aggressive approach on the mound with him.

FLA: RHP Brian Moehler(0-3, 13.14 ERA)

Because of a rainout in Philadelphia, the veteran right-hander was skipped in the last part of the rotation. He was moved up to Friday, after being slated to toss on Sunday. His last outing was on April 17 at Cincinnati, where he gave up eight runs -- seven earned -- in five innings. Since then, Moehler has worked extensively on his mechanics, fine-tuning his delivery. He is making some adjustments that he believes will make his pitches have a different look.

Mitre to go Sunday in series closer:

Up next

? Saturday: Rockies (Josh Fogg, 2-1, 4.76 ERA) at Marlins (Jason Vargas, 1-1, 5.06 ERA), 6:05 p.m. ET

? Sunday: Rockies (Miguel Asencio, 0-0, 3.86 ERA) at Marlins (Sergio Mitre, 1-2, 4.56 ERA), 1:05 p.m. ET

? Monday: Phillies (Gavin Floyd, 1-2, 8.50 ERA) at Marlins (Dontrelle Willis, 1-1, 3.13 ERA), 7:05 p.m. ET

So we're pushing Dontrelle back a day to get Moehler a start?

Man, Girardi, you must really hate this job because it looks like you're trying to get fired...

I dont mind the move actually... Gives you Willis and Olsen, two great Lefties, in the mini-2game set against Philly... WOULD BE A GREAT move if Moe gets the win tonight or atleast keeps us in the game...

lets be positive at least, thought it was a mistake when i saw moehler staring. but the floridamarlins site must be messed up, says RADIO 187, got all homicide up in here now.

The Rockies have been a pretty darn good team so far this season (1st in the West).

You don't fudge a rotation to push your ace back a day, especially early in the year. This team needs as many starts as they can get out of Dontrelle, they can't just give a day back.

All they really did was switch Mitre and Moe. D-Train has been scheduled to pitch against Phillies.

Yea I know that the Rockies arent a push over team this season but I dont mind the move. This team needs as many starts as they can get out of Dontrelle, they can't just give a day back. True but either way you would have to give dontrelle rest.. you dont want to blow out your ace... Whats an extra day? Not like today is a world series game 7...

Dontrelle pitched Tuesday against the Cubs.

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

Saturday.

Four days rest, his day should have been Sunday.

Moehler had already been skipped a turn so they were not going to skip him again and what I am talking about is even if Mitre were still pitching today Willis wouldnt start until the Phillies series.
