the lady has had over a 20 year career, that has spanned many decades - many of her young rebellious fans in the 80s have become successful, conservative middle aged people (usually the ones who can afford her ticket prices)

 

i'm a jimmy buffett fan and he's a big democrat - this is known and it really doesn't bother his fans regardless of affiliation - why?!

 

because come show time the guy entertains and that is why people are paying $36-$136 for

 

it would be like going to a broadway show and having them shift up their lyrics to make some inane political rambling and then justifying it with - "well the theater is liberal, that's what you should expect"

Alright, so I was there when she said all that stuff. Trust me, it was entertaining...so for anyone to attack her on that front, you're wrong. Period.

 

Second, I think it's ridiculous that people get mad at celebs for having opinions and expressing those opinions. I have to listen to a lot of you spout off about the world. Honestly, I'd rather listen to Madonna. Does her opinion matter? I don't know. Does yours?

 

Also...she was pretty much preaching to the choir. There were probably 4 people at Coachella who voted for Bush in the last election.

 

Third, I think if you're a fan of dance music, you will like Madonna's last album quite a bit.

 

Now, with all that said...Madonna obviously has a massive ego. There's this festival with a ton of other stuff to do at the same time as her set, and she has the nerve keep everyone waiting like she's the only game in town. She started almost thirty minutes late, and her set, which was scheduled to be 50 minutes, was more like 40 minutes. I felt pretty bad for all those people who got there 2+ hours early to get a good spot. Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Obviously not everyone is anti-Bush, but from what I have seen, the majority of them don't like him either.

 

And, it's not like she does this at every show either. Lots of artists make political statements whether in song, film, etc. It's just a matter of opinion. Madonna is still an American citizen and she still has the right to say what she feels whether people like it or not. So, why is this even in the news?

I agree with phx, perform that is the only reason you (and like entertainers) are known because you can sing and dance.

 

Now if she was at a rally, a political function, or asked...more power to her...but it is all sorts of lame to change lyrics to one of her songs telling the crowd to blow someone.

Yeah, I think everyone enjoyed every minute of it. But those are the Madonna fans. A lot of people went to see Madonna partly for the novelty of it because it was a tremendous hassle, and there was just so much other stuff going on. I don't feel bad for the Madonna fans, I feel bad for the other people. I'm guessing, because I haven't looked yet, that the Coachella board is less enthusiastic about the whole thing.

No, I would not be fine with CEOs and principals spouting off. Athletes, whatever...they could say what they want, but I highly doubt I'd ever hear about it. There's a big difference between those kinds of professionals, though, and people whose very job is to entertain. All the other people you listed, even the athletes, have much more important responsibilities. Madonna's job is to get people to have a good time, and really that's it. At most 10% of the people at Coachella were put off by her comments (probably more like 1%), and the other 90% or so were just looking for another opportunity to go nuts. I think you guys are taking this all a bit too seriously. People at Coachella just want to dance and scream and go nuts.

 

And I'm not asking anyone here to be entertained by Madonna. Most of you would probably never be caught dead at one of her shows. You can let this stuff get you riled up if you want. That's your call. But for almost everybody at Coachella, it WAS entertaining. It just was.

There was also someone that wrote "Bush Sucks" on a notepad during Oakenfold's set and the camera was on him and that was the loudest cheer of the day yet.

"Esther" is a skank. This type of stuff is expected of her.
