Dolphins Invite Marcus Vick To Camp

most phin fans are not behind this move, at least not the fans on the dolphin's message board, those for the move are in the minority. i agree with you about the rap sheet: the drugs, guns and everything else aside this dude is a pedophile. and that is one of the lowest things you can ever do. he hangs with under age girls and gives them drugs and alcohol and supposedly had sex with one of them and there were most likely other times it wasn't reported. you don't hang with underage girls just because especially when you are marcus vick and can hang with anyone you want. and this is not a second chance this is like a tenth chance and he hasnt done anything to earn another chance. lets see him behave for more than 3 or 4 months and lets hear some apologies or see him do some good in the community before giving him chances to succeed.

given a chance to work out with an nfl team is a REWARD. the fact that the team is even giving him the chance to perform for them and giving him their time is sickening. i wouldn't expect publix, best buy, etc. to give pedophiles the time of day.

my personal fave is still the spiking of an opponent:

He's not worth the effort to keep inline.

Talent's there, but he's just too much of a headcase to justify the amount of time he'll take, unless the Harrington thing is absolutely dead.

Undrafted Hokie QB will get look from Dolphins

By Len Pasquarelli

ESPN.com

Undrafted and still unsigned former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick has been invited to attend the Miami Dolphins' rookie mini-camp this weekend to audition for the team's coaches and personnel officials, ESPN.com has learned.

Michael Smith

Marcus Vick lacks ideal height for a quarterback. He also lacks playing experience (having started only one season) and doesn't have his superstar older brother Michael's amazing athleticism (though he is considered a better passer). And above all he doesn't, to say the least, have a sterling reputation, thanks to the lengthy rap sheet he compiled during four often difficult years at Virginia Tech. One thing Vick isn't lacking, however, is self-confidence.

The invitation comes with no strings attached and no promises of employment.

League rules permit clubs to bring in a limited number of free agent rookies to participate in mini-camp sessions. Teams use the practices to evaluate the players on the field and the auditions often lead to contract offers. Whether the Dolphins decide to sign Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick, probably depends on how well he performs this weekend.

Dismissed from the Hokies squad in January, for what university president Dr. Charles Steger termed "the cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play," Marcus Vick was not among the 255 players selected in the draft. Some teams inquired about him in the two days since the draft, but none offered a free agent contract.

There is a possibility that, if the Dolphins don't offer Vick a contract and no other NFL club demonstrates interest in him, he might have to consider the CFL as an option for beginning his professional career.

Miami lists just three quarterbacks -- recently acquired veteran Daunte Culpepper, untested veteran Cleo Lemon and Brock Berlin -- on its roster. Culpepper continues to rehabilitate from three torn ligaments in his right knee and it is not certain yet if the former Minnesota Vikings starter will be recovered for the start of the regular season. Lemon, a two-year veteran obtained last year in a trade with San Diego, has yet to play in a regular-season game. Berlin, viewed as a developmental-type prospect, is currently playing in the NFL Europe League with the Hamburg Sea Devils.

The Dolphins have been attempting for weeks to complete the addition of former Detroit starter Joey Harrington, but the Lions have balked at Miami's trade offers.

Beyond his off-field issues, Vick also lacks experience, and he appeared in just 24 games during his college tenure. He was redshirted as a freshman in 2002 and suspended from the team for the entire 2004 season. Vick split playing time in 2003 and then started all 13 games in 2005.

Vick completed 207 of 346 passes for 2,868 yards, with 19 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions. At the combine workouts in February, he measured 6-feet and 200 pounds and he has been time at 4.47 in the 40-yard dash.

Love the move!

He was undrafted, won't be paid much and is not a risk at all. If it works out, he has a ton of talent and potential to be a very good NFL QB. He has as much natural ability as almost any QB from this draft but is very raw.

If it doesn't work out, oh well. Was worth a shot.

Funny this happens, can beocme an immediate fan favorite (here in miami they were always raving about him). I've even heard rumors that he is better than his brother Michael Vick and much more athletic. This could prove genious. Any other input on this?

Man, Juliet was only 13 homey.

If you're young enough to love, you're young enough to love.

Marcus n' Juliet

In all honesty, 20-15 is not THAT big of a deal. I've seen it before. I don't condone it, but it's not a ridiculous difference.

That being said, I'm not trying to stick up for the guy or anything.

Yeah, only against the law.

I dont care how sweet the nectar is, sex with a minor is ridiculous...consenting or not.

He's the quarterback for a college team, and he has to dip into a high school freshman class? Ugh.

Meh, don't like him, but there's no risk there and probably won't make the team anyway.

I get it. Just saying that 20-15 isn't that uncommon round my neck o the woods.

And again, I'm not sticking up for the guy, just generalizing.

Exactly.

He has his pick of the litter and he goes to a girl who possibly isn't developed, yet.

Smoking pot is one thing but this dude is just not worth it. I understand Nick's interest since there really is no risk but I'm not supporting it.

19.

Although he was never convicted of that.

The guy is clearly a moron. But the fact is, talent is always afforded more opportunities in sports than people with less talent. There is no risk here. Worth a shot.

i still listen to R.Kelly sometimes so thats all i got to say...

I personally think there have been far worse offenders in the NFL. One infamous Phins draft pick comes to name by the name of Cecil Collins. Damn he was talented. But he lived and breathed crime.

Marcus Vick trying out with Dolphins

NFL.com wire reports

DAVIE, Fla. (May 3, 2006) -- Bypassed in the NFL draft, former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick will try out with the Miami Dolphins when he takes part in their three-day rookie minicamp beginning May 5.

Vick's troubled career at Virginia Tech included repeated brushes with the law and ended when he was kicked off the team in January after his junior season. He's the brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

Vick's presence at the camp was confirmed by Tommy Reamon, his high school coach in Newport News, Va.

The Dolphins declined to identify players invited to the camp. A statement by coach Nick Saban suggested that Vick and other invitees may be long shots to receive a contract offer.

"As we did last year, we are going to bring in a number of unsigned players to our rookie minicamp, strictly for evaluation purposes," Saban said. "This doesn't mean we are about to offer any of them a contract. All we are doing is finding out as much as possible about each of these players. This is a continuation of our overall evaluation process and does not imply a commitment of any kind."

The Dolphins, who drafted two receivers but no quarterbacks last weekend, were in the market for passers at the rookie minicamp.

Reamon said he talked with Vick about the tryout.

"He's excited. We're all excited," Reamon said. "This is the steal of the draft class. He's the most versatile player the Dolphins have had in years."

Vick passed for 2,393 yards and 17 touchdowns last season for the Hokies and led them to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. But he made an obscene gesture at fans during a game at West Virginia, and he stomped on the leg of a fallen opponent in the Gator Bowl.

Tech suspended him from school in 2004 because of legal problems, and he was stopped in December for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license, which led to his dismissal from the team.

Michael Vick recently said his brother has matured greatly over the past few months but needs someone "to take him under their wing."

Reamon said Vick is eager to another chance.

"He made decisions that were out of character and wrong, and he has learned from them," the coach said. "He's asking for an opportunity."

Miami has three quarterbacks on the roster -- newly acquired Daunte Culpepper, Cleo Lemon and Brock Berlin. Saban hopes to add as his No. 2 quarterback former Detroit starter Joey Harrington, either in a trade or after he's released by the Lions.

And since we have so much invested and riding on both, that will affect our team how?

it just shows pathetic desperation on the part of saban. leaving no stone unturned, no matter how bad of a backrgound the clown has. to get kicked out of college when you are the starting qb, and brother to a local legend, you really have to screw up, more than we will probably ever know about.

hey i hear lawrence phillips is running around somewhere, he could use some cash, lets as him to try out. hell let's get on the phone with cecil the disel again, he was not such a bad guy.

then again i missed when saban ever tried to steer mcmike right, so i guess as long as you perform all is forgiven. :thumbup i'm surprised we havent called up oj simpson's agent, he has some treads left on those tires and hell he has a killer instinct and running back needs in this league.

That's the oxymoron of the year. Realistically, he won't be our long-term QB. I think it's more of an investment. Saban will keep his head on straight, showcase his talent in the next few pre-seasons, and try to trade him off for mid to low pick.

Why not? What's it costing us?
