Junior
With the draft coming up I started thinking of how many steals there have been through the major league baseball draft. A lot of MLB stars are 2nd, 3rd, 8th, and 13th, and sometimes even 40th and 50th round picks. Some guys(Piazza) are just drafted because of family ties to an organization, yet he turned in a Hall of Famer. With that being said, I have went over the top 50 hitters and pitchers (by OPS and WHIP) in 2006 and then listed their draft position. Top 50 hitters by OPS, draft position Albert Pujols - Selected by St. Louis Cardinals in 13th round (402nd overall) of 1999 amateur entry draft Jim Thome - Selected by Cleveland Indians in 13th round in the 1989 Major League draft. I would draft 20 no names if it meant landing an Albert Pujols..., yes, what were they thinking? Interesting that they drafted Coco Crisp, I did not know that... QuickGold
Anyone on this list drafted in the first two rounds, is not a "steal", they were obviously scouted correctly.

Interesting that they drafted Coco Crisp, I did not know that... Actually they did.. he got traded for Chuck Finley in 2002.. They needed a dude for the stretch and he helped get us through the difficult times of DK, etc. I'm sure they'd do the deal again if they had to.. Chris Duncan has just now started to show up.. Journell cant find the strikezone and well that's about all I've heard of these players.. Oh and Pearce made the major's and was OK but besides that.. Nah I was saying what the hell we're they doing because it took us a while to even pick him up.. but I'll gladly take him in the 13th round.. FutureGM
Mike Piazza was only drafted as a favor to his father from the Dodgers' GM. Turned out to be a good decision....
