Rather than coming off the DL, Jeremy Hermida (hip) played in another game for Single-A Jupiter on Friday. He's not expected back until Sunday or Monday.

Hermida is ready now, but a few more at-bats won't hurt, and the Marlins would prefer to send down Robert Andino to make room for him, something they can't do until Hanley Ramirez returns from a shoulder injury. May. 19 - 10:55 pm et

Maybe they are trying to coincide his callup with HanRam coming back into the lineup. I guess when that happens Andino and Wellemeyer will be sent down.

Only one gets sent down because Hanley is not on the DL.

Hermida- Majors

Dino- Minors.

Yes, thats right. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part about sending Wellemeyer down.

Unlike his prior appearances he played in RF instead of DHing this time too, so good news there. See, theres always cause for hope:)

Still a bit punchy after tonight's loss, obviously. :brigginbounce

I am glad they aren't (at least it seems) rushing Jeremy.

I am used to these crushing losses. I feel like nothing at all happened today. Oh and I agree with you on not rushing Hermida. I rather have him out for a few extra days then have this be a reacurring injury.

ST. PETERSBURG -- Jeremy Hermida's return to the lineup has been pushed back a day or two, but not because of any further setbacks to his injured hip flexor.

Still playing it cautious, the Marlins' rookie right fielder played in a rehab assignment for Class A Jupiter at Dunedin on Friday.

When Hermida is activated could be tied to how Hanley Ramirez's left shoulder is feeling in a day or two.

Ramirez tweaked his left shoulder Tuesday night at Atlanta. The rookie shortstop experienced pain swinging through a changeup. Since a roster move will have to be made when Hermida is activated, the team is weighing its options. When Hermida is activated, the probable player to be optioned is shortstop Robert Andino, who was brought up from Triple-A on Wednesday.

Ramirez took batting practice for the first time Friday, and he also did fielding drills.

It's possible both Ramirez and Hermida will be back in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Rays. If not, it is likely they will be back Monday at home against the Cubs.

"He needs a few more at-bats," manager Joe Girardi said of Hermida. "He's feeling good, that's the important thing."

Hermida went on the disabled list April 17, and he's spent the past week playing for Class A Jupiter.

It is likely Hermida will play another rehab assignment at Dunedin on Saturday.

The fact the Rays are starting tough left-hander Scott Kazmir on Sunday, that may factor into activating the left-handed-hitting Hermida.

General manager Admin Beinfest said on Friday that the Tropicana Field turf isn't a concern for Hermida's hip. "I'd guess at this point, he'd probably play [a rehab assignment] tomorrow," Beinfest said. "There is a possibility of being activated on Sunday or maybe Monday at home."

The Marlins reportedly expect to have Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) back in the lineup by Monday.

Ramirez took batting practice Friday and will likely push Robert Andino back to Triple-A when he returns. May. 20 - 9:30 am et

Because we don't have a back up SS/2B if Alfredo/Uggla *gulp* gets hurt.
