Nielsosky
Ok, I know that you are going to have a lot of criticism for this post, but I'm going to say that I think we should give Dontrelle Willis a day off in the Phillies series. True, he is still considered a staff ace by some people; true, this is the most important seies of the year, but D-Train just isn't D-Train anymore. We all know that he has not had a pretty ERA since the all-star break. We all know, even if we don't want to admit it, that he has been just another mediocre pitcher lately. Are going to tell me that you are going to send him out because of the reputation he forged in the first half, that has for some reason not disolved yet? Are you going to try to win the wild card race with what he did in the first half? We al know that the only thing good about him right now is his reputation. One, if we pitch him inthe game against the Phils he is already so tired, that I do not see him doing great against the Phils suddenly alive-again offense. Two, if we do not give him some rest, he is going to be absolutely nothing by the postseason and will eventually end up in Dr. Andrews office that Aj Burnett visited. I'm not saying he isn't a good, but right now he isn't.
Ramp
he will not get a dayoff.... they want him pitching the least game of the year vs the Mets too... check flamarlins.com for the new article and DW has pitched alot better than the first few weeks since the break
AJBurnett34
Very good reason to give him a day off but McKeon wont do it. With this series versus the phillies he wont but if he DOES pitch against the Mets i would give him a day off for the playoffs.
Mabdul Doobakus
Actually, I think the D-Train has been pretty good lately, and he's definitely one of the three guys I'd want on the mound, along with Beckett and Penny. Those are my three. The one thing I was wondering about is maybe skipping Pavano's spot in the rotation to give Beckett an extra start (if that's how it worked out anyway...I haven't really looked at how the rotation will play out for the rest of the year...) I don't know if it's a good idea, but it's a thought...
Ramp
starting tonight.... Brad Penny, Pavs, Redman, Willis, JBeck, Penny, Pavs, Red, DW
Mabdul Doobakus
starting tonight.... Brad Penny, Pavs, Redman, Willis, JBeck, Penny, Pavs, Red, DW well, then that's exactly what I'm talking about... You take out Pavs start, and Beckett gets an extra start. Maybe all this shouldn't matter against the Mets...but maybe it does. On the other hand, Beckett obviously pitches any 1-game playoff if they don't skip Pavs... Ramp
right. and do you want to try JBeck with only 3 days rest?.... for the 1st time in his career?(my guess)
DownRodeo
Skipping Willis isn't the craziest idea in the world...the only reason I wouldn't do it is that, who exactly is worth bumping up? The two hottest pitchers, Beckett and Penny, are already pitching in the Philly series. Who would you want pitching the third game? Both Pavano and Redman were fairly ineffective in their last starts. Let Willis pitch against Philly, then, hopefully if we've already clinched by the last game of the season, rest him against the Mets. Das Texan
beckett would start any playoff game.... or game 1. works for me.
miami15
Beckett has been rolling, but Dontrelle hasn't been that bad. Against Montreal he was awesome Aganst Atlanta he was okay and the philly game was all windy and who watched it anyways? Plus, we'll get like 42,000 that game, if that s*** even matters anymore. The point is Dontrelle has struggled, but he is still not horrible.
83Gator
Ok, I know that you are going to have a lot of criticism for this post, but I'm going to say that I think we should give Dontrelle Willis a day off in the Phillies series. Who do we start instead? Helling? Tejera? Or do you want to push everybody up a day and have them go on 3 days rest. Pavano and Redman look a little shaky as it is - I don't think we should be pushing them up. And like Ramp said, Beckett has probably never pitched on 3 days rest. The best scenario would be for us to clinch the Wild Card before the last game or so. If we could clinch on Friday against the Mets, then we could start whoever we want on Saturday and Sunday to get our rotation in order for the playoffs. Marlins2003
Very good reason to give him a day off but McKeon wont do it. With this series versus the phillies he wont but if he DOES pitch against the Mets i would give him a day off for the playoffs. If the Marlins have clinched (I'm amazed the possibility exists that could happen!) by the last day my guess is McKeon would give Willis the day off. Trader Jack is no fool, if they don't need him that day He'll rest him for the Giants.
