Moehler gets the nod in finale

Marlins manager Joe Girardi will be guiding his team against a familiar face in the team's final game of three-game series against the Cubs.

The Cubs will be starting Greg Maddux, whom Girardi caught during his first tenure with the team from 1989-1992, and he's well aware that the veteran is still a formidable presence on the mound.

"He's smart, you're not going to find a smarter pitcher on the mound," Girardi said of Maddux, who holds a 19-11 career record vs. the Marlins. "He really knows what he's doing out there."

Facing off against Maddux will be Marlins righty Brian Moehler, who is 1-0 with a no-decision in his last two starts.

Following an off-day Thursday, the Marlins will open up a three-game series against the Mets on Friday at Dolphin Stadium.

Pitching matchup

CHC: RHP Greg Maddux (5-3, 3.76 ERA)

Maddux has struggled as of late, going 0-3 in his last three appearances after starting out 5-0. In his last start, the former Cy Young winner went 5 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits against the White Sox.

FLA: RHP Brian Moehler (1-4, 7.29 ERA)

Moehler earned a no-decision in his last start against the Devil Rays, but went seven innings for the second straight time. He gave up three runs on six hits against Tampa Bay. Moehler carries a 4.85 career ERA against the Cubs.

Player to watch

Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez holds a .306 career batting average against the Marlins with 22 RBIs.
