June 1, 200620 yr Is K-Mart going to join the team in Colorado or is he still doing some rehab? I have been kinda scanning some of the threads for the answer but I came up empty. Anyone know when he is coming back?
June 2, 200620 yr Author Noteworthy: When the Marlins open at Colorado on Friday, they likely will make some roster moves. Relievers Todd Wellemeyer and Franklyn German are expected to be designated for assignment. The team also is expected to call up lefty Taylor Tankersley from Double-A Carolina and activate right-handed reliever Carlos Martinez from the 15-day disabled list. Flamarlins.com I am guessing he will.
June 2, 200620 yr Author Why German?? I am thinking the same. Why go through all this rehab and stuff when they were planning on saying bye to him. There must have been something behind the scenes that we don't know about.

There must have been something behind the scenes that we don't know about. Possibly. Well, let's see how K-Mart does when he comes back, and hopefully Tankersley will do great in his debut (when it happens).
June 2, 200620 yr Wow thats some BS getting rid of German. Why not get rid of Herges? Germans 10 years younger with better numbers. His only problem is he has 14 BB, but he's only allowed 4 runs. He has a good arm and could be a nasty reliever. Stupid move...
June 2, 200620 yr We need to keep German. He has got great potential and has looked good this year. No reason to get rid of him.

Unfortunately, that is a problem he has had for his entire career - he has 106 career walks in 137 innings. That's more walks than he has strikeouts (99).
June 2, 200620 yr Perhaps the reason for German's extended rehab was to showcase him in hopes of finding a trade partner. It also may be that he has options left (and I have no idea if he does or not) and the Marlins are hoping to slide him through and ultimately send him to Albuquerque. I don't think anyone really knows... edit: See my "Transaction Rules" post to see why Franklyn German was out of options and had to be DFA'd. The short answer, this is his fourth year on a forty man roster.
