June 5, 200620 yr Really need to get back to .500 before you can talk playoffs. Marlins aren't even near .500 yet.
June 5, 200620 yr Author Actually I'm not retromarlins. I just thought it was amusing that our streak started just after that message was posted on May 22. Hermida also came off the DL the same day, and I would think that had a bit more to do with the streak than retromarlins post. Also almost everyone on the team started to play well at the same time. Obviously, I don't view us as a playoff team - we still do have the worst record in the NL.
June 5, 200620 yr The way we are playing is very promising. We knew from the start that our offense would compare (or exceed) last year; the pitching has been our biggest issue. But it looks like Girardi has found a nice entourage of relievers that he can rely on. Guys that weren't here early on, but have since made a pretty nice impact-- Kensing, Tankersley and Borowski have been doing well recently (Tank in his first two outings looked good), and of course Herges will give you some veteran assistance (albeit inconsistently at times). And with Martinez back, there's another solid addition to the pen. Our starting pitching has been pretty good that last two turns, and it appears that the Train is going full steam ahead (There is no doubt in my mind that he can still get 14-15 wins this year if the offense supports him.) Keep it up, boys....
June 5, 200620 yr We're playing well but it's one thing to do it over the span of two weeks and quite another to maintain that over the course of the rest of the season.
June 5, 200620 yr My goal for this team is to finish at .500. If they do this season will be a success. Next year might be really fun to watch.

June 5, 200620 yr It was the 1000=Win thread at floridamarlins.com forum that has brought this team good luck. Since I first made the thread the Marlins 9th inning curse has been broken and went over .500 ever since.
June 5, 200620 yr I came to tears reading the smart ass replies that post generated. Whoever put up the "easy" button sig...kudos to you. It is nice to see this team doing what we all knew possible. All offseason, we were constantly bombarded with the lazy "analysis" provided by writers and radio people; the Marlins had another fire sale and would be fielding a minor league team, blah blah blah. Well we clearly made out very well in our trades. We gave up a stud in Beckett and got one back in Hanley. We dumped JP and look to have made out like bandits with Nolasco. And the world is now watching our own young core of Miguel, Willingham, and Hermedia combine with Jacobs and Hanley to form a very solid offense. I would be thrilled to see us lock up Miguel and Dontrelle. If we trade D-Train we will receive a ridiculous package of players to fill in the few remaining holes we have on offense and it cetainly looks like we have lots of quality pitchers, even enough to offset the loss of true pro like Dontrelle. We will have a contending team by 2008 at the latest. And that wonderful post started it all.
June 5, 200620 yr Floridamarlins.com is one of the worst places to post. There are so many trolls there.

June 5, 200620 yr I still don't think we're playing for this year, but assuming the play of late stays for another month and a half or two months, I don't know what to say. I mean, the way we're playing now I really think we could beat anyone. Still though, this team needs some form of lineup protection for Cabrera, a true closer, and for Dontrelle to find his rhythm before we can start talking seriously about playoffs.
June 5, 200620 yr With the potential this team has it will be hard to believe this team not making the playoffs next year or the year after that. I mean look... Hanley Uggla Jake Miggy Hammer Hermida These guys can be amazing. If our SP continues to be good. Willis, Noly, Olsen, Nolasco. These guys are not just average starters. They have A LOT of potential. All we need is a good catcher and a good centerfielder.
June 5, 200620 yr All we need is a good catcher and a good centerfielder. You have a good centerfielder. Why do you include Jacobs in your post, but not Reggie when Reggie and Jacobs have similar stats?

He dreads the time when Reggie is up with a runner at 3rd with 1 out.

I remember that game, He did get that run home with a sac fly. he is getting on base and covers alot of ground in center. he might not be as cute as some of the players you want to see, but he has been getting the job done lately and overall (atleast until we start spending a little money) he is our best option. i might add Reggie is hitting .294 with RISP. wich is preaty good.
