June 6, 200620 yr -BA's "FREE" Draft Day Blog Late Word From The Top 11:38 a.m.: Multiple sources are confirming that the Royals, as Baseball America has projected, will take Fort Worth Cats righthander Luke Hochevar with the No. 1 choice at 1 p.m. ET. The Dodgers, who pick No. 7, are believed to be zeroing in on Motlow State (Tenn.) CC righthander Bryan Morris. It's possible Morris would be available when Los Angeles picks next at No. 26. But the Dodgers could lose him to the Braves at No. 24 or the Angels at No. 25, and don't want to risk it. --Jim Callis
June 6, 200620 yr Author I think that Hochevar is a better pick than Miller. Hochevar has been playing out of the college ranks for a year now, and imo was a better prospect than Miller in last year's draft. Miller wants an absurd pro level contract too. I think they are going the correct route.
June 6, 200620 yr Mike Berardino today, Third baseman Chris Marrero of Opa-locka Monsignor Pace could go in the top 15, but if he slips to the Marlins they are expected to pounce. Fort Pierce high school right-hander Colton Willems also has gained the attention of the scouting department. Listed at 6 feet 3, Marrero has shown raw power. He has signed to play at the Univeristy of Miami. Willems, who is 6-4 and has seen his stock rise in recent weeks, has signed with the University of Florida.

I think they are going the correct route. I desperately want Miller to fall to us an number 8. His contract demands are high, but 80% of his field outs come on the ground. Ground ball pitchers are something we need badly.

June 6, 200620 yr arly Picks May Have Done Deals 12:46 p.m.: A source familiar with the negotiations says the teams and the players that will be picks at Nos. 2-3-4 have agreed to financial parameters. The Rockies will give Stanford righthander Greg Reynolds $3.25 million; the Devil Rays will pay Long Beach State third baseman Evan Longoria $3 million; and the Pirates will dole out $2.75 million to Houston righthander Brad Lincoln. --Jim Callis Ok so Miller needs to drop past 3 more teams.
June 6, 200620 yr Casey Stern sure has made a name for himself on mlb.tv. He's the only DreamJob contestant to really be successful in sports reporting. And he didn't even win!

June 6, 200620 yr Author Mayo has Miller to the D'Backs. They have had some fantastic 1st rounders in the last 3 years.
