BOSTON ? (AP) ? The Boston Red Sox sent righty David Riske to the Chicago White Sox for lefty Javier Lopez in a trade of relievers Thursday.

The Red Sox bullpen had no lefties and had been struggling recently.

Lopez was 2-1 with an 0.55 ERA with 12 saves for Triple-A Charlotte this year. He was expected to be with Boston for Thursday night's finale of a three-game series at Minnesota.

Lopez appeared in 171 games with Colorado and Arizona and has a 6-4 record with a 6.09 ERA in the majors.

Riske, obtained by Boston in an offseason trade that brought center fielder Coco Crisp to the Red Sox, was 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA in eight appearances. He was on the disabled list with a lower back strain from April 12 through May 22.

Boring trade...but Riske is not very good.

Lopez MAY have some sort of upside.

That was a Riske trade :p .

That was a Riske trade :p .

Rimshot! :p

Seriously...he's been hurt most of the season, so maybe Riske will benefit from a change of scenery. My Sox got him to back up Foulke, but when Riske went down, that opened the door for Papelbon.

I got a feeling Theo's just getting started...

Retarded trade.

I almost thought that was Javier Vazquez :lol

Red Sox needed a soutpaw and got one here.

The line on Lopez in his Sox debut:

IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA

Lopez, J 1.0 1 0 0 1 0 0 0.00

He came in to relieve Julian Tavarez in the 9th after Tavarez allowed a leadoff single to Cuddyer. Lopez walked Morneau and then allowed a Torii Hunter RBI single..charged to Tavarez.Morneau got nailed at 3rd. Kubel grounded into a game-ending DP.

Not bad considering he was in Charlotte earlier in the day...
