Question: Do you see the D-train being traded by the deadline or do you think hes going to stick it out as a Marlin?

Buster Olney: I think they'll keep him -- but you could see the Dodgers or the D-Backs making very aggressive and interesting offers for Willis, because the Marlins need young outfielders and the Dodgers and D-Backs have those. Still think they'll keep him this summer, then move him in the winter.

My Question: What do you think of the Marlins beating teams with 3-5 times the salary they have? Last I checked, it was $14 million, with $4.5 going to Willis alone.

Buster Olney: Remarkable, especially how fast the pitching has come along. You could make a case for Girardi as manager of the year, although Willie Randolph or Tony La Russa would probably win if the voting were today.

kool, i like buster olney

Buster Olney > Dayn Perry

Olney is right on when saying Joe G should be manager of the year but he probably would not ever win it...too bad

Randolph and larussa shouldnt win MOY. Not bashing on either one of those guys, but you give almost anybody the players that the cards or mets have and they can win ballgames

I disagree strongly with Olney regarding Willis.

If we were to deal him, I'd be exceptionally pissed if we deal him in the offseason because of the little sense it makes given that pitchers always command a higher price in season, especially this season with such little pitching available, and given the glut of front end starting pitching on the free agent market this offseason (Pettitte, Zito, Mulder, Maddux, Glavine, Schmidt, Clemens), it makes almost no sense for the Marlins to dangle Willis in the winter.

It's just common sense if your goal is to make the team overpay.

Yeah, exactly, any number of decently intelligent fans could win with those clubs, especially in the division in which they play.

I believe we wont trade willis, bc the reason we dropped the payroll down to 14 million was to be able to keep willis and cabrera

I don't see us trading him either.

Then where are their long-term deals?

The drafts are sitting in someone's desk while we await the resolution of the stadium controversy. In the meatine, the team is optimistic about getting this done and will hold on to their top guys, because when the deal gets done we have those 2 players as the centerpieces of an extremely talented and improving group.

Wow...just wow.

The stadium deal could actually hurt the Marlins ability to pay more given that their revenue sharing check will decrese substantially and all revenue that clubs enjoy from a new stadium (naming rights, luxury suites) has already been pledged to the stadium building pot.

Tony is overated as a manager I mean look at your players and payroll I can win games with Pujols,Rolen,Jim ,Mulder ect.

That isn't accurate at all. A new stadium (the team hopes) will provide a positive flow of income for years to come. Thus the marlins can set their roots in south florida, establish a winning tradition, and gain more fans as the years go on. Long term deals for willis and cabrera are a positive investment that will eventually lead to much more money than any short term money loss b/c of the loss in the percentagen of revenue sharing (which by the way most teams dont use those funds to get players anyway like theyre supposed to)

The problem with Dolphin Stadium is that H Wayne has his grubby hands in the take of everything...That was a nutty deal!

Still, the fish are going have to pay their electric bills for now on, I don't think Loria knows anything about that.
