Looks as though the base building structure on the outside is patterned after Ebbet's Field. Very nice.

i noticed that too, i have a model of ebbets field in my room and it does look pretty similar

I think we already had a thread on this.

Anyway, I think it's kind of lame for them to build it so close to the airport again.

Why? Planes don't fly overhead during games and it's a short ride for visting teams/fans.

And, no it will not be Shea. They've already said they will allow corporations to bid on the rights to the name.

Man that is a sweet ballpark.

I love the seating arrangement for the infield box.

Im glad for Mets fans. Ive been to Shea. They had to endure that for a long time.

So what corporations are you all hoping bid on the naming rights to Mets new ballpark?

One idea ? The Just For Men Keith Hernandez Memorial Stadium.

Haha. No play for Mr Gray!

Actually, something like Metlife Stadium (already a long standing relationship with the team) would be nice. It really doesn't matter though.

I've never been to a game there but the sound on TV was damn annoying.

They no longer fly overhead, haven't for years. And they certainly won't anymore.

judging from the few games ive been there, you cant hear that many flights. and even when you do, its really not that annoying

it looks like were gonna have a Cinergy Field situation, since the new park is gonna be built so close to Shea

The Mets don't have much to work with if they wanted to stay in Queens. Queens is practically built up, with entire residential sections for miles to see, coupled with a smattering of retail, industrial and parkland that can't be stripped away by law. Either private lots (along with necessary zoning changes) would have to be purchased or they move to a different section of the city or even outside the city. Plus, the city set aside the area where Shea is, part of a huge complex of surface parking, parkland and sporting facilities called Flushing Meadows, a long time ago for the exact purpose of attracting major sporting events and public recreation, including the tennis. Along with that, people can get there using plenty of options provided by road and rail. Four highways crisscross Flushing Meadows, if I remember correctly, but NY drivers who know the place use the local roads in the neighborhoods to beat the traffic. From the Mets' standpoint, it is easier to build on parking spaces as long as decent infrastructure is already in place. To me, it would have been a waste knowing what is available there if they had upped and left.

Either way, if Mets fans can tolerate years of losing teams then airplane noise is nothing in comparison. :mischief :whistle

jealous.

we really need a park.

i hope if/when we get one it looks this cool.... like those crazy models a few months ago...
