She made sure I stayed out of trouble. Most of the time! How much did and does that still mean to you?

To continue to keep playing well and see improvement. Base_Ball_4: 3:06 pm How does it feel to hold the new Marlins rookie record for doubles in a year? marlinsguest: 3:08 pm Mike Jacobs: It defintely feels good to be able to accomplish something like that so early on. August 1, 200620 yr Adminsw: 3:08 pm You were a catcher earlier in your career, do you prefer 1B or is being a catcher something you'd like to give a try again? marlinsguest: 3:09 pm Mike Jacobs: I do miss catching, but first base is going to help me stay around a lot longer. Obviously its less strain on the body. jewbility: 3:10 pm Earlier in the year, you went through a bit of a slump. Obviously you have rebounded quite well...but at the time, did you ever doubt yourself or your ability? marlinsguest: 3:11 pm Mike Jacobs: One of the things about this game, is you can't ever doubt yourself, or let what people might say drag you down or take away from your confidence. I just stayed positive, knowing the season is a marthon, not a sprint, and knew that if I kept pushing every day, I'd rebound out of it.

Is that one of your favorite moments so far early in your career? marlinsguest: 3:19 pm Mike Jacobs: Obviously anytime you can have a big hit that wins a game is pretty special. To be able to have a couple of them under my belt, in my short time being up here, it goes down as one of my bigger moments. lmr408: 3:20 pm A lot of people are mentioning Joe Girardi as a possible Manager of the Year. What's he like to play for? marlinsguest: 3:22 pm Mike Jacobs: Joe comes from a winning background, and knows the game better than most people. Being able to be around him every day and talk to him is a tremendous help to me and this club. I know no one expected much from us this year, but we have confidence in ourselves. He's a big part of that. txfish: 3:22 pm Were you happy that no trades were done by the Marlins? marlinsguest: 3:24 pm Mike Jacobs: Obviously the trade deadline is stressful for a lot of people, but I think that it shows that this group will hopefully be around together for a long time. marlinsfanfoeva: 3:25 pm How did you get 17 as a jersey number? marlinsguest: 3:26 pm Mike Jacobs: I've always had #17, in the minors. Last year when I got called up to the Mets, I was given #27. But when I got trade over here, Hermida was wearing #27, so I was able to get #17 back Adminsw: 3:27 pm You are not getting too many starts against LHP's, does this bother you? marlinsguest: 3:28 pm Mike Jacobs: Have you seen my batting average against lefties? I wouldn't start me either! But serioulsy, I've been able to hit lefties in the minors and its just another thing you have to adjust to, and get better at in the big leagues. banana27: 3:29 pm Are there any players in the league today that you consider role models? marlinsguest: 3:30 pm Mike Jacobs: I grew up watching Chipper Jones and he was a role model for me when I was younger. Being able to play against him now is pretty special. I've always liked the way he plays the game, and he's made me want to play the game hard as well.
