August 14, 200620 yr Report: UM's Williams set to transferHerald staff report Willie Williams may have finally found a new home. Canestime.com reported early Monday morning that the former University of Miami linebacker is close to transferring to Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi. ''We have reviewed his record and academically he is in really good shape to graduate from here,'' Pearl River Community College coach Tim Hatten told Canestime. Canestime said a decision is expected to be made today. The former Carol City High standout whose lengthy arrest record stirred national debate when UM accepted him in 2004, was given permission by Miami to explore transferring in quest of more playing time last month. But the nation's most highly recruited linebacker in 2004 had trouble finding a school. Tennessee, Fresno State, West Virginia, Louisville and Troy State were all said to be schools Williams was interested in. None of them, however, were willing to take him. Williams played in 10 games last season and had 17 tackles after being redshirted in 2004. He is expected to play one season at Pearl River before potentially moving back into the Division I-A level. Pearl River won the NJCAA national title in 2004. LINK

August 14, 200620 yr I just dont get it man. why the hell is he transferring to a school like this??? He would have been starting for the canes this year!! that is not correct...Willie was slotted on the depth chart as the second-team OLB...that is the reason he is transferring cause he wanted to start, but he didn't earn it...so that is why he is picking up and leaving the U
August 15, 200620 yr What a fool. No one will notice him in at that place. He should have stayed at UM, and eventually he would have started. At the very least he could have graduated from a good college. Oh well screw him
August 15, 200620 yr Eeegh, no comment. UM took a lot of heat for taking him. Some loyalty he's showing them.

August 16, 200620 yr What a fool. No one will notice him in at that place. He should have stayed at UM, and eventually he would have started. At the very least he could have graduated from a good college. Oh well screw him Umm...the whole reason he is going to a JUCO is so that he can play next year and then the following year he will have his pick of whatever majoe university he wants to go to. Its either that or simply sit out this year and then play next year at the same university.

Obviously he isnt good enough to start right now, thats the reason he isnt playing. He should have waited his turn like everyone else and eventually he would get to start.
August 16, 200620 yr The article isn't totally accurate, and Godfather's right, to an extent; Willie isn't eligible to play for another Division IA school this season. That's why he's going to JC. I don't exactly think he'll get to go to the school of his choice, but he will be playing for a major IA program in 2007.
August 17, 200620 yr He didn't report to the team and is not going to be there this year.....nice work by him.
August 17, 200620 yr Coach: Williams won't play at JUCO COACH: WILLIAMS WON'T PLAY AT JUCO The Willie Williams saga continues. The former University of Miami linebacker -- who was said to be transferring to the nation's top-ranked junior college team, Pearl River Community College in Mississippi -- again is without a team. Pearl River coach Tim Hatten said Williams, who was expected to arrive in Mississippi on Tuesday, did not make it and won't play for the school. ''We had some stipulations he needed to meet, and and he failed to meet them,'' Hatten said late Wednesday night. ``Some of it was under his control, and some of it wasn't. We've got a football team whose trying to get ready for the season. We needed to move on.'' Williams, the nation's most highly recruited linebacker in 2004, could not be reached for comment. He still can return to Miami; his scholarship was already renewed and the school cannot change that. ''We would have loved to have Willie here,'' Hatten said. ``He's a good kid. But now it looks like his options are getting kind of narrow. I have no idea what he's going to do.'' -- MANNY NAVARRO http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...mi/15291583.htm
August 17, 200620 yr So he can return to Miami academically, but basically no way he dresses for football games, rights?
August 17, 200620 yr Unless Coker gives in and lets him play, there'd be no reason to see him anywhere near field next year.
August 18, 200620 yr Former University of Miami linebacker Willie Williams had his probation terminated today -- six months early -- and is headed to play football at an undisclosed community college outside Florida, Williams' attorney, Paul Lazarus, told the Miami Herald. ''He has already been accepted and he is ready to go,'' Lazarus said. ``I want the world to know Willie got his probation terminated early because he did everything he was supposed to.'' Broward County Circuit Judge Michael Kaplan presided over Friday morning's hearing, as Williams' mother, aunt, grandmother, girlfriend and baby daughter looked on, Lazarus said. Williams, who was present for the hearing, had to pay $208 he owed to the Department of Corrections for his supervision, his lawyer said. His probation was to run through February. Lazarus said he would not reveal the name of Williams' new football team until he starts practice. Williams will be at the school by Saturday, Lazarus said. Williams entered UM under controversy. He pleaded no contest to felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly hugging a student against her will and discharging hotel extinguishers during a recruiting visit to the University of Florida. He had been arrested 10 times as a juvenile and was on probation at the time of the Gainesville incidents. LINKAGE
August 18, 200620 yr Whaaa? This is from today, I see... the hearing was this morning. Where the heck is he going? And as much a thug as he was when he was in high school he's really handled himself well at UM. Yeah, he was probably a crazy ass teenager but he's been sorta in the spotlight at the U and he's been a good citizen.
August 21, 200620 yr Cross another potential school off the list for former University of Miami linebacker Willie Williams. College of the Sequoias offensive coordinator Andy Siegal -- a former head coach at Miami Coral Park High -- said Monday morning that Williams didn't show up and wasn't expected to play football there. Siegal said he had heard through former connections in Miami that Williams might play at West Los Angeles College, a community college that plays in the Competitive Western State Conference. West L.A.'s website says it is ``Home of the Hustling Oilers.'' ''I called him and his stepfather at least 20 times,'' Siegal said. ``They didn't return any of the messages.'' Williams, who left UM seeking more playing time, had his probation terminated in Broward County Circuit Court six months early Friday. His lawyer, Paul Lazarus, said Monday morning that Williams would not be playing at College of the Sequoias. Lazarus would not reveal where Williams might play, but said there was, indeed, a place he had in mind. Siegal confirmed that Williams had contacted the College of the Sequoias football program at least twice in the last couple of weeks, the last time on Thursday, asking if he could still register for classes and play on the football team. August 23, 200620 yr Willie Williams has found a football home. Williams, a former University of Miami linebacker, has enrolled at West Los Angeles College -- a community college in the Western State Conference -- and practiced for the first time Tuesday, according to his new head coach, Craig Austin. ''He is an immediate impact player who made the entire defense play at another tempo and level -- and that was just the first day of practice,'' Austin said. ``I'm extremely excited that he's here in the program.'' Austin, who coaches football as a part-time job and has been a Los Angeles County Sheriff for 17 ? years, said Williams is living near campus with his stepfather, Leonard Pressley. Williams had his probation terminated six months early Friday by a Broward County Circuit Court judge. The 2004 UM signee and Miami Carol City High All-American entered UM amid controversy because of a lengthy arrest record, mostly as a juvenile. He was charged with allegedly hugging a woman against her will and setting off fire extinguishers in a hotel during a recruiting visit to Gainesville, which resulted in another arrest and three additional years of probation -- cut short last Friday because of good behavior. ''One of my assistant coaches had a conversation with one of the Miami coaches and they said he's a good guy and has been a model citizen,'' Austin said. ``I told his father about my structure and my discipline and my concern and care for the student-athletes and that is something he wanted Willie to be involved with.'' West Los Angeles College, home of the Hustling Oilers, was 1-9 last season. Williams, who is playing outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme, will play in his first game Sept. 2 at Palomar College in San Diego. ''We've got a number of great players, including Willie,'' Austin said. ``But his position coach said he's probably the best he's ever seen.'' Austin said this is his first year coaching at West L.A., where he said Keyshawn Johnson and Warren Moon once played. Austin said he was the offensive coordinator at Santa Monica College the past 10 years, when current NFL star receiver Steve Smith played there. Williams has two remaining years of eligibility after he plays this season. He could also apply to enter the NFL Draft next April, as he would be out of high school three years. ''I feel like he's in a great situation,'' Austin said. ``Anytime you can get into a good environment in a structured program at this level, it's great. I don't think it's good for a football player not to play a full year. It's good for athletes to stay perpetual and not become stagnated. They get rusty. ``It could be a one-semester deal for Willie, where he could play and then matriculate to another university. Or he could even turn pro. At least he'll have that option.'' LINK
