September 17, 200620 yr Yeah he was getting hit but 4 of those hits should have been outs Nope. Only the Uggla grounder could realistically be said would have been caught (Abercrombie doesn't get to that blooper anyways even if he knows where it is). The Willingham fly would have taken a very nice catch. The Deep Abercrombine would have taken a very nice catch. The single was already a single. The Willingham fly was very catchable and the deep Abercrombie ball should have been an easy play the outfield was playing deep
September 17, 200620 yr Borowski didnt lose the game. Reggie not being able to catch a pop up and fly ball lost the game. Willingham over running the winning single and not catching the fly ball at the wall lost the game. Hanley not hanging on to the throw at 2nd lost the game. Borowski did his job. Borowski didn't lose single handedly (without a doubt) but they were still lighting him up pretty good. The fact that the Braves pushed FIVE across has something to do with his pitching. Yeah he was getting hit but 4 of those hits should have been outs 2 you cant assume a play at the plate. But the argument to demote his goes beyond this game. Joe has not being trust worthy as a closer all year. We all hold our breath when he goes in. For most of the year he's some how done the job, but that was a fluke. Now we're seeing his true colors, and it's time to demote him before we're out of the wild card. Why isn't the job he did through the majority of the season his true colors, instead of what he's done in only the last month? Why isn't the last month a fluke instead? He has ONLY done his job if you consider the save statistic (which is unfortunately the most meaningless statistic in baseball). What other stats should I be looking at? Not being a jerk, I just guess I don't know. He has a decent K/IP, I don't think he's walked a lot of people, and (I know, you hate the save stat) he at one time had 20-some saves while only blowing two or three.
September 17, 200620 yr Author Today game basicly scream get bullpen help next season. Hopefully Marlins get rid of Borowski next year, he is in the 30's which what the Marlins arn't really looking for.
September 17, 200620 yr Just a question- are you saying he isn't dominate because he doesn't get a lot of K's? Isn't he at almost a strikeout per inning? Generally, dominance by pitchers is noted by a few metrics, HRs, Ks, BBs, GB:FB ratio, K/9 and K/BB ratio. Just an FYI, Borowski's last 10 games: 8.38 ERA 4 SV 9.2 IP 14 H 9 ER 6 BB 12 K Other than a solid K/9 ratio, everything about him has sucked fiercely lately. Guy has been figured out and has lost it.
September 17, 200620 yr Im pretty sure of this but I could be worng. Pena was the winning run Aybar was the tie run. Aybar was on 2nd because of the Hanley f up and Pena reached 1st. If Hammer doesnt over run the Giles single Pena doesnt score and probably only reaches 2nd.

September 17, 200620 yr Author Hopefully Martinez come back next year. We are going to need a 8th inning pitcher when Tank move up to the 9th. C'mon Beinfest, get us a dominating 7th inning pitcher that we can promote over time!

You just saw a game where a catcher scored on a sacrifice fly to the second baseman, and you're going to make that leap? Please. Unfortunately no one was even warming up in the bullpen. That's what lost us the game.

I said Pena was on first and Pena was the winnning run. If Willingham doesnt over run the Giles single Pena probably would have been held to 2nd and its a tie game.
September 17, 200620 yr I would love to see Tank as our closer but he is too valuable to just be a 9th inning guy. Hopefully next year we can find a good closer and keep Tank in the 8th.
September 17, 200620 yr If Willingham doesnt over run the Giles single Pena probably would have been held to 2nd and its a tie game. And the run comes in next at bat anyways off Renteria's bat, probably in a much more normal fashion. Who cares?

Yeah that could very well have happened but dont quote me and make up some bs that I never said
September 17, 200620 yr Also, let me say this. If you can't consistently get three outs in the final frame of a baseball game with a lead (excluding a mop up guy such as Jason Vargas), you have no business being on a major league roster. Booo hiss, don't use logic or statistics. He has lots of awesome saves!
September 17, 200620 yr JoBo did not cost us the game today. It was our defense. A series of miscues, from the ball that Willy had hit off his glove, to the drop by Ramirez, to the total flub by Willy on the winning run. Willy just can't play defense on a MLB level. The other day he almost lost his glove on a similar play. Maybe one day he'll get his head caught in the outfield fence seam and make the all-time blooper reel. . . . Today, the whole thing started with Willy's failure to catch that ball. If he catches it, everything else is moot.
September 17, 200620 yr Unfortunately no one was even warming up in the bullpen. That's what lost us the game. It also cost the Marlins a game in St. Louis. Just sickening. Oh because Resop is gonna come in and mop up? Laughable. Mariano Rivera wasnt doing soft tosses in the pen. Its all down hill after Tank, Herges and Borowski (who I agree with you is horrifically overrated due to the save stat) The whole thing happened so fast there was no time to warm a guy up. And IF so........WHO? What about the 5/6 outs that Borowski did get ?????!!!!!!!!!! Jesus.

September 18, 200620 yr Author But who do we have then? If Borowski was in Cincinnati, he would had the boot a long time ago, but in this team, we got nobody to replace him!
September 18, 200620 yr Author In the regular deadline I agree but during the waiver deadline, we had a good shot at the WC.
September 18, 200620 yr borowski isnt going to be a marlin in 07...so its useless to demote him now...we lost...oh well...gotta go get em tomorrow
