Offseason rumor thread

Lastings would solve our CF problems. I don't want to give up D-Train, but the reality is that D-Train is going to be moved. He simply is going to make too much. The reports estimate that our payroll won't surpass $25 million...that's a near impossibility considering some have projected about $12 million for just Miggy and D-Train. If you're going to trade him, I wouldn't mind getting back a 21 year-old freakish talent who would instantly upgrade our CF position and who won't earn any big-time money for at least another 4 years.

If I am going to trade D-Train I would rather have Elsbury and 2 pitching prospects back

If we were to trade DT I would accept Jacoby Ellsbury (23 y/o) CF, Craig Hansen (22 y/o) and Michael Bowden (20 y/o 95 mph fast ball and 12 to 6 curve) or Bryce Cox (22 y/o 97 mph fast ball). I believe Hanson can close for us

We might not be able to get Hansen, they were a little disappointed in him but may not want to give up on him considering Paplebon is going into the starting rotation, but it would be nice for sure

Center field, bullpen are main targets

Palm Beach Post: "Baseball sources said the Marlins particularly are interested in center fielders Chris Duffy of Pittsburgh, Willy Taveras of Houston and Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Two Tampa Bay outfielders, center fielder Rocco Baldelli and controversial prospect Elijah Dukes, also could be targets."

Has anyone read up on Eli Dukes ? I just searched on the internet, and I'd say stay FAR FAR FAR away from that guy ! He is trouble waiting to happen, no need for that dispruter on the team. We have a gelling chemistry on the team that doesn't need that crapbag full of problems :banghead

It seems we now have 2 thread reference this article...My suggestion instead of one thread we should have a separate posting grouping "Hot Stove League " is a very popular term It will be active from here to spring training Once The Winter Meetings starts it will explode in reference to rumours and articles. One Thread is totally impractical. We will begin to hear rumours by the dozens daily

Reference to Elijah Dukes he appears to have a world of talent but always appears to find himself in a world of trouble. As I had said before I compare him to Carl Everett who is a freakin nut but has had a very productive career. I have no problem with having Dukes on our team. If he become a clubhouse cancer if he is talented enough someone will always want him on their roster.

I started that other thread before this one was posted. So I'll take some blame for that because I agree with you. One thread is plenty. Lock the one I started and get this one going. I'm not much on talking rumors so I tend to stay away from threads like this. Just thought that article was interesting so I figured I would share it.

I don't really care for anyone that has the potential to screw up the clubhouse, like Dukes or Milledge. We had enough of that in 2005. Granted they both have great upside but we already have a great upside with the team we have. We just need a couple, preferably veteran, pieces. AFAIK, the team became pretty close, forget getting a young guy who has heard his whole life about how good he is going to be.

This would cost money which seems to be the exact opposite of this teams philosphy But, what about this?

Akinori Iwamura Prepared To Play 2B/SS/CF

Akinori Iwamura is a 27-year Japanese third baseman with a good chance of being posted. Translations indicate that he could post a .850-.900 OPS in the Majors.

A recent interview with Iwamura (in Japanese) indicates that he'd be willing to convert to second base, shortstop, or even center field if needed. He was a five-time Gold Glover at third in Japan.

IF he can play CF he is young and solid player he might be a good pick up.

I figured he would most likely be too expensive from the bid alone. Too bad he could be a nice addition to a team.

Yep yours was first

NY papers having all the "scoops" on guys going to be traded to the Mets? That is shocking news. Maybe we are misinterpreting what they mean by scopps. Maybe they mean poop scooping. As far as the comment that the Mets don't have enough to trade for Willis. That's not entirely accurate. They have a 3B named Wright that if packaged right would be ok in exchange for Willis. Cabrera could move to 1B and Jacobs sent somewhere for a CF or relief help. Oh, I forgot, the NY media have him labeled as the "best 3B in the game" ahead of the likes of Cabrera, Rolen, Eric Chavez, A-Rod, etc. So maybe the Mets wouldn't want Willis for him.

At this point, I say what we all should do is just read the NY papers as good examples of fictional fantasy writing and nothing more. If Willis were to be traded to NY, I think that it would be more like to the Yanks because Beinfest could ask for Wang and maybe Melky Cabrera in return. Otherwise, he stays here or goes to another AL team.

The Marlins don't have to break up the roster to fill needs. All they need is relief help and a solid CF. I think considering Beinfest's track record, he can easily fill those needs without making a blockbuster trade.
