Many of you that have been around for a while may remember the 'Best Of' threads on different areas of music back in the day. While I'm not discounting that series coming back, here's your chance to help decide the different side of the debate: Most Overrated. This is the fifth thread in the series, most overrated government officla.

 

In this thread, nominate three choices for most overrated government officials of all time. This includes anyone that has ever been part of the American government as anything other than President. Let's face it, most non-political science majors would be lucky if they could name 15 political figures current or otherwise off the top of their head, so this makes it easier. Any person nominating more than three will only have their first three selected. Furthermore, it's pointless to nominate someone who has already been named earlier - they don't get points for being brought up more than once (yet).

Hillary Clinton - she has done nothing but ride her hubby's coat tails and everyone wants her to run for President??

Mike Sweeney - a dirty and corrupt politician that was just replaced by someone who has never served in a public office before and NOW there is talk he will be the new head of the GOP. Whatever.

Ted Stevens (I'm convinced he's gone senile)

Condi Rice

This is a really hard one to be "overrated" since there isn't much public knowledge of the people.

Barack Obama - seriously, why he's the new rockstar politician is something I don't get.

Im not sure if you can refer to any government official, but since he is an advisor to the president, I consider him a government official..

 

1. Karl Rove-The man was a handful of votes in Florida from never really being heard of outside of the closest political circles. He then sees his president get one of the biggest sources of political capital(9-11) any president has ever gotten, right up there with FDR, and yet still only navigates a re-election that won by a few counties in Ohio. Somehow he is called a genius but I think 2006 proved how overrated he is.

 

2. Ted Kennedy-Gets way too much respect from one side and concern from the other for a guy that doesn't do much but cause trouble these days.

I tend to give him credit for flat out cleaning up NY. Yes it came at a large expense of civil liberties. But the way he dropped the crime rate in that city has always impressed me. And having lived in New Orleans during Katrina, I might envy his performance during 9-11.

I was more along the lines of him being a man who was widely unpopular during his final term in office and then is given political power equal to or greater than the President.

 

Yes his actions following 9/11 were exemplory, but this guy was almost run out of town before then, yet after people are calling for the suspension of term limits so he can serve again, named man of the year and became one of the three or four most powerful men in politics.

 

I'm not saying he's bad, or didn't do a fantastic job at the end of his term, but he's "overrated" in my book, especially when you consider he's no worse than a coin-flip for the runaway popular president choice in '08.

obama , a 2 yr senator who has accomplished little other than the all important cultivation of the support from Oprah and her easily manipulated audience btw obama beat freaking Alan Keyes i could beat Alan Keyes by 30 points .
