Posted November 14, 200618 yr BORAT star Sacha Baron Cohen was beaten up by a passer-by after he tried to play a prank as his alter ego. He approached the man and said: ?I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it.? But the bystander didn?t see the joke. He took one look at Cohen and punched him in the face. The funnyman ? known for his Borat catchphrase ?Jagshemash!? ? yelled for help but was slugged again and again. He was rescued by actor pal Hugh Laurie who had been on his way to a New York bar with Cohen. Laurie rushed to help and pushed the man away as Cohen struggled to his feet. A pal of Cohen said: ?Sacha couldn?t resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person. ?I guess this guy thought he was being attacked by someone unstable and lashed out. Sacha is very lucky he didn?t get a much worse beating.? The incident took place after Laurie and Cohen appeared on the US TV show Saturday Night Live. The Brit comics were on their way to a late dinner when Laurie suggested they visit a bar in Manhattan. Laurie, 47, told friends he feared Cohen was going to get badly beaten up. Luckily, 35-year-old Cohen did not receive any lasting scars. Studio chiefs have warned Cohen to avoid pretending to be the spoof Kazakhstan TV reporter on the streets. Since the film was launched he has only appeared in character while promoting the movie on American television shows. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is tipped to become the highest grossing comedy of all time. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006520669,00.html
November 14, 200618 yr Im surprised this didn't happen sooner. Is Borat really on its way to be the highest grossing comedy of all time?
November 14, 200618 yr Im surprised this didn't happen sooner. Is Borat really on its way to be the highest grossing comedy of all time? No idea, but the record is Bruce Almighty's 242 mil.
November 14, 200618 yr Thank God. I cannot stand this idiot or this movie. Gee, guess because you don't like it he deserves to be assaulted. Satire is a lost art to some people, though.
November 14, 200618 yr I love the fact that two of my three favorite characters of the moment hang out and are friends. And the movies at around $60 million right now (2 weeks at #1, though that will most certainly end this week with Casino Royale's release), so I'm not sure if it'll reach Bruce Almighty. Does that $242 mil include DVD sales, TV rights, international receipts, and everything else?
November 14, 200618 yr Author The 242 million is box office gross. I don't know why Bruce Almighty would be considered the no. 1 comedy when Shrek 2 grossed 436 million. There are a ton of comedies that grossed more then Bruce Almighty.

There are a ton of comedies that grossed more then Bruce Almighty. Depends on how you look at it. Technically, Shrek 2 is an Animated Comedy. I was going by how the studio billed it as. For example, Men In Black 2 is a comedy, but the studio released as an "Action Comedy" flick. At the end of the day, Shrek 2 is still on top of the comedy genre umbrella.
November 14, 200618 yr Author No way, imo. Most of the people who really wanted to see this have seen it now. While word of mouth is big especially with comedies, this whole concept and 'Borat' is still unknown to alot of people.

When people like my parents and grandparents are seeing it based purely on word of mouth, I think it blows up even more.
November 14, 200618 yr The best example I can think of word of mouth is the 2002(?) romantic comedy "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
November 14, 200618 yr Well, I've seen it twice and it was just as funny the second time, so I can see people going back.
November 14, 200618 yr Author The question is, does Borat have the replay value to last that long? Much moreso than a Bruce Almighty. What will hurt it is the R rating. Bruce Almighty was more appealing to a broader age group, Borat is far more alienating. I actually think the reason why Borat will perform well is because it DOES have considerable replay value. Bruce Almighty in all honesty wasn't that funny and had the typical Hollywood storyline. It was only that successful because there was a larger market for it. I remember it having a fantastic advertising campaign as well. No way, imo. Most of the people who really wanted to see this have seen it now. November 15, 200618 yr Bruce Almighty was a terrible movie but it did have a great advertising campaign. I remember the trailers and commercials made the movie seem like a cant miss. I was very wrong in my assesment but it fooled me enough to go see it. Borat I think does have some staying power. My parents and aunt and uncle went to see this movie just cause of word of mouth and youtube clips I showed my old man.
