November 27, 200619 yr I have been wanting to know more about him, and have done some (a very small amount) research. My google searches only took me so far in answering the questions I really want to know about him. I found out he once wrote a book with Charles Shultz about the Peanuts kids and art, and of course that he owned a somewhat prominent art gallery in NYC. The real question I have been dying to know, and maybe someone like marlins2003 or rferry or seem to so loyally defend him as an owner, is how rich is this guy? Is he really worth over the 100 million mark ? He just doesn't appear to be the insanely wealthy type who could afford a major league team in any sport. It seems to me that he inherited this Marlins team thanks to some very shrewed business moves, but he wouldn't be rich enough to outright buy a baseball team on his own. It almost seems like a good net % of his worth actually comes from his portfolio of baseball team(s). So if anyone could give a little background info on Loria's worth and business past, I would greatly appreciate the due diligence and conversation on this topic.
November 27, 200619 yr I can tell you something, you were right when you said he screwed some people to own this team. Think back to the expos, start from there, research old articles it will tell you, but I dont know much either.

I'm sure you can find a number of articles on the man himself in the October 2003 archives of most local papers and other papers with significant baseball coverage. You likely won't find much about his financial situation.
November 27, 200619 yr This is just off the top of my head, but I recall his net worth being somehwere in the $200 something million range. Obviously he's a businessman dealing in a unique field for profiting, and as such, I'm sure there are countless loopholes exploited to hide international sales skewing his worth. So, short answer, he's probably not wealthy enough to be a single party majority owner, but baseball has safefalls in place to try to ensure that isn't an issue. But, you can only lead a horse to water...

November 27, 200619 yr I believe $200 million was the number quoted a year or so ago. But keep in mind there is a difference between liquidity and asset value. The way the art market has gone the last eighteen months he could be worth significantly more.

I am very surprised the step son is still in the orginazation tho. I doubt you can find out anything on his true wealth for the reasons given by others here. But his baseball-related resume' is in every media guide since 2003.
