At 32, DE makes 'no guarantees' about his future

INDIANAPOLIS -- Could Jason Taylor have played his last game for the Dolphins?

The Pro Bowl defensive end didn't discount the possibility following Sunday's 27-22 season-ending loss at the Colts.

"Anything can happen," Taylor said when asked whether he would consider retirement in the offseason. "I'm not going to get into [possible reasons]... To be honest, yes, I will have to think about it and there are no guarantees."

Considered the front-runner for the Defensive Player of the Year award, to be announced Friday, Taylor capped his standout season with a fumble recovery, four tackles and a hurry against the Colts. But Taylor, who will be 33 entering next season, has endured five consecutive years without a playoff appearance. Taylor also has struggled with a back injury since the preseason.

"It's worse [this year]. [i'm] older. It gets tougher to get through some days during the week," Taylor said. "I was talking to Peyton [Manning] ... I would do anything in the world -- except for my wife and kids -- to play next week. But we didn't make it."

great.

I'd like that....... nobody messes w/ LIGHTS OUT Shawne Merriman!

Except the guy who jams that needle into his ass...

Say whatever you want about him Taylor should of just kept his mouth shut obviously Shawne learned from his mistake and was able to show what he could do without performance enhancers.

All Taylor said is that he thought Merriman shouldn't be up for consideration for the award because of the nature of his suspension and the fact he was gone for four games.

I think its a perfectly legitimate argument and thats not because I'm a Phins fan.

He did his time, and he should be eligible. There is nothing in the rules that says he is not. I wouldn't vote for him because of what he did, but he should be eligilbe. If Taylor doesn't think he should be, that is something he should address the next time they have a CBA.

Well you know what he meant by up for consideration.

Its just ridiculous to blast Jason Taylor for making an argument for what I'm sure the majority of people who follow or are associated with the NFL agree with.

My only issue is that it makes him seem like he doesn't think his own numbers merit getting the award of Merriman.

Why should have JT have kept his mouth shut? He was asked a question, and unlike most, he answered it honestly. Champ Bailey followed suit soon after and agreed with what Taylor had to say. There was nothing wrong about what they had to say.

And yes, OBVIOUSLY Merriman is showing what he can do without enhancers. Awesome. :whistle

Taylor's point was 100% correct.

Taylor is not gonna walk away from the 9 million or so he's due next season......

He's just pissed off about how this season went, give a few weeks and he'll forget all about wanting to retire....

wow I didnt know he was due that much. i wonder if his contract gets restructured? I believe the dolphins have 20 free agents so they may have to.

Taylor was correct his comments were legit but like most of you Phins fans im Shawne Merriman biased (Went to MARYLAND) so truthfully, I dont really know if he should win it, but he still did a great job.

No question Merriman did a great job.

If all things were equal and Merriman was not suspended for the drug violation, I wouldn't mind if he won the DMVP. But I'd still be disappointed that Taylor didn't win if that happened. Especially since, in the words of Jim Mandich, his season was the greatest ever by a defensive end in the Dolphins history. His season also ranks up there with the best of the best for everything that he did.

He might have "done his time" but he still cheated. He cheated before he was caught which leads to speculation about whether his numbers were inflated b/c he cheated. It also means his season last year can be tainted due to him cheating. Regardless he is a great talent. I just do not believe that people who cheat (even if they did there time) should be eligible for post season awards and the Pro Bowl.
