Yes you're right but seeing Johnny Benson get second place after he passed below the yellow line is horrendous. It was obvious that he was under the yellow line. He should have been penalized for that. They at least should have demoted him to third place. I wasn't too upset that Sprague got the win because I knew Kvapil had the fastest truck out there all night but the fact that he finished third to someone who cheated to get second pissed me off.

 

NASCAR needs to be solid in giving penalties/throwing yellows no matter how good the finish is or is going to be.

 

Why did they not wave the yellow? Mark clearly had a a nose on Harvick when there was a car UPSIDE down behind them, yet no yellow? Bull s***!

No it didn't. If it would have finished under yellow like it should have, Mark Martin would be the winner. First Benson passes someone under the line and there's no call at the end of a race then a car flips upside down and there's no caution at the end of a race. NASCAR sure is off to a great start, isn't it? Ridiculous. Mark Martin is the rightful winner of that race.

I was jumping up and down when they started wrecking, celebrating, I thought he was the winner at that point.

I was too. Absolutely dreadful call on NASCAR's part. I thought they put the rule in that there is no racing back to the line for this exact reason. I'm just completely irate right now. I really feel like throwing something.

It was the right call. The caution didnt come out mostly becuase it was the Daytona 500. Because there were two cars going for the win. Because the wreck had zero affect on the outcome of the race. The cars that wreck, wreck whether the caution is thrown or not.

 

And the rule was never put in place for this purpose, it was put in place to prevent people a lap down, racing back to the line to get a lap back.

Bottom line (for both the finish of the truck race and Cup race) is this: It's a rule that was not followed or enforced. Mark Martin won that race. He's not driving a full season, he won't win the title. But he is, in my eyes and anyone else's who knows NASCAR and how the rules should be followed correctly, the 2007 Daytona 500 champ.

 

And, by the way, the wreck coming to the finish was all on Matt Kenseth.

 

At least David Ragan finished 5th in his first full season cup start after starting 35th. Awesome to see that.

watch the last 50 laps of today's race you might have an idea of why the sport is so popular.

That was fun...had to DVR the last bit, but what an awesome finish. I agree with Das. To throw the yellow flag at that point would have been a terrible call. The controversy it would have caused would have been ridiculous. They've done this in the past. I can't remember specific occurrences right now, but I do remember there's been an occasion where there was a wreck on the backstretch and the caution flag didn't come out. I'll find what race it was a little later. You can't interfere with that.

 

And believe me I wanted Mark to win more than anybody as I said in my first or second post in the thread.

 

And Fishfan...like ff said watch the last 50 laps of this race. Hell go to a race. The races I've been to have been some of the most fun events I've ever gone to.

NASCAR has NEVER been and will never be consistent on their decision making. Their partiality is disgusting and I believe that this year they're going to be called out on, with this new ESPN deal and all.

not a big nascar guy, but i get interested in bits - was watching some of this on DirecTv in car with Harvick (who was my favorite guy showcased still in the race) ..... he was in 29th spot with not that many laps left and I decided that I needed to get my dog to the park - nice to see him pick up the win
