February 18, 200719 yr Author I cant see why people get into this, it is like watching traffic on I95 i agree...but then again...traffic in massachusetts is woeful...as are the roads...so i watch traffic all day, everyday...cant imagine paying or being excited about it...but then again...to each his/her own...on the bright side...the ancestors of this crazy event(because im sorry, its not a sport) did help to bring booze to our ancestors...and that...is something i can be thankful for Then get the hell out of this thread. Why do you have to ruin this for those of us who are enjoying it?
February 18, 200719 yr No more of those posts. You're wasting your time because they will be removed.
February 18, 200719 yr Author Big wreck. Johnson gets loose and causes a multi car crash. Johnson, Hamlin, Green, Reutimann all collected. Mark Martin will be the leader when they go back to green with a two tire stop. If only he can hold them off. No more of those posts. You're wasting your time because they will be removed. Thank you. :thumbup
February 18, 200719 yr Man I'd love to see Mark Martin win this let's go baby!!! IF YOU AREN'T WATCHING THIS YOU AREN'T AMERICAN!!!!!
February 19, 200719 yr Gosh it's weird having this race end at night. Yeah it is, did they ever say why it was pushed back?
February 19, 200719 yr $$$$$$ Man, this is going to be exciting.. What the HELL just happened? Why did they not wave the yellow? Mark clearly had a a nose on Harvick when there was a car UPSIDE down behind them, yet no yellow? Bull s***!
February 19, 200719 yr Why did they not wave the yellow? Mark clearly had a a nose on Harvick when there was a car UPSIDE down behind them, yet no yellow? Bull s***! They did wave the yellow, and the race finished under caution (from what I just heard on the FOX broadcast)

It should have been waved when they were entering the tri-oval.
February 19, 200719 yr Man, I've never felt so sick. I don't understand why the caution didn't come out when everyone was wrecking. Mark had the race won.

February 19, 200719 yr I really think not doing the yellow was the right thing to do...all of the wrecks were happening behind Harvick and Martin so they werent affected down the stretch Although it wouldve been nice to see Mark win...that finish was so awesome that I think the right decision was made

That was 10000x more exciting than throwing the yellow.

You're right, but based on the rule where the cars are frozen at the time of the yellow, and how they've handled it in the past, I thought the yellow would've come out and ended the race. Just on the way those types of situations have been handled in the past, I felt he should've been in victory lane. But like you said it was probably the right thing to do, but damn it would've been great to see Mark win the Daytona 500.

They did wave the yellow, and the race finished under caution (from what I just heard on the FOX broadcast) No it didn't. If it would have finished under yellow like it should have, Mark Martin would be the winner. First Benson passes someone under the line and there's no call at the end of a race then a car flips upside down and there's no caution at the end of a race. NASCAR sure is off to a great start, isn't it? Ridiculous. Mark Martin is the rightful winner of that race. Man, I've never felt so sick. I thought they put the rule in that there is no racing back to the line for this exact reason. I'm just completely irate right now. I really feel like throwing something.
February 19, 200719 yr well, that Benson pass wouldn't have affected the winner of the race though. Sprague won the race.

It was the right call. The caution didnt come out mostly becuase it was the Daytona 500. Because there were two cars going for the win. Because the wreck had zero affect on the outcome of the race. The cars that wreck, wreck whether the caution is thrown or not. And the rule was never put in place for this purpose, it was put in place to prevent people a lap down, racing back to the line to get a lap back.
February 19, 200719 yr Author well, that Benson pass wouldn't have affected the winner of the race though. Sprague won the race. Yes you're right but seeing Johnny Benson get second place after he passed below the yellow line is horrendous. It was obvious that he was under the yellow line. He should have been penalized for that. They at least should have demoted him to third place. I wasn't too upset that Sprague got the win because I knew Kvapil had the fastest truck out there all night but the fact that he finished third to someone who cheated to get second pissed me off. NASCAR needs to be solid in giving penalties/throwing yellows no matter how good the finish is or is going to be. Why did they not wave the yellow? Bottom line (for both the finish of the truck race and Cup race) is this: It's a rule that was not followed or enforced. Mark Martin won that race. He's not driving a full season, he won't win the title. But he is, in my eyes and anyone else's who knows NASCAR and how the rules should be followed correctly, the 2007 Daytona 500 champ. And, by the way, the wreck coming to the finish was all on Matt Kenseth. At least David Ragan finished 5th in his first full season cup start after starting 35th. Awesome to see that.
