September 5, 200718 yr I had a Sierra Nevada Big Foot ale saturday and it was horrid. It cemented my hatred towards anything sierra nevada. Gold Medal winner at the GABF? Do you not like barleywine, maybe? I haven't had this yet, but was thinking about it. I usually find Sierra Nevada beers to be okay - about par with Saranac.
September 5, 200718 yr Update: Just bought and drank the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. Surprisingly, worst one yet! I've NEVER had a beer from Dogfish Head that I flat out didn't like before. I am shocked and sorely disappointed. So far, Smuttynose *still* has the best Pumpkin.
September 9, 200718 yr OHHHH!! Almost forgot: I picked up a large bottle of Ommegeddon this afternoon. I put it in my basement to condition until the Superbowl. Guess what The Godfather picked up for tonight. :mischief Technically I am still "working" right now, but will open it up in a couple hours. Can't wait, it sounds really good. I might even write my first review for ratebeer.com since I won't be drinking this one in a bar.
September 9, 200718 yr I must say that the Ommegeddon was a disappointment. Especially since my expectations were raised when I found out that they are the same brewery that makes Three Philosophers and you recommended them to me. I found Ommededdon to be very chalky, earthy and kind of a mineral type of flavor. I love the earthy flavor in my wine (quintessa is my favorite wine) so I guess I just expected more from this from the reviews I read. I guess now I know that I like earthy in my wine, not in my beer. Anyways...you are still the man though when it comes to beer recommendations and deserve a mod position because of your awesomeness. If you are ever in South Florida the tab is on me. :thumbup Just didn't care for this one.
September 9, 200718 yr I must say that the Ommegeddon was a disappointment. Just didn't care for this one. You already opened it?!! :o You needed to let this one condition for 6 months first! That's why it's going to be my SUPERBOWL beer! Awe man... Now I'm thinking I might need emergency beer just in case. You RUINED Christmas! :lol

It did taste like a wine that should be aged. Have you tasted it before?
September 9, 200718 yr Oh yeah - I have some more beer write ups to share from this weekend but I will leave you with the best [since it's 1/4 to 4 in the am]: Left Hand Milk Stout. Initially tastes like chocolate milk then finishes like an iced coffee. REALLY tasty beer.
September 9, 200718 yr Have you tasted it before? No - this is a brand new beer for them. They have another new beer coming out that I will tell you nothing about until I have had an opportunity to sample on my own... :mischief

Chocolate milk beer? I don't know about that man! :lol
September 13, 200718 yr My write up on ratebeer.com http://www.ratebeer.com/Ratings/Beer/Beer-...sp?BeerID=12028 Aroma: 8/10 Appearance: 5/5 Flavor: 8/10 Palate: 4/5 Overall: 17/20 This beer really surprised me. The first thing you notice after pouring the dark brown [almost black] goodness into a quality pint glass is the sweet smell of chocolate. That smell lingers as you get your first taste - defined by sweet chocolate and milk flavors. After letting it sit on your tongue for a second, the coffee flavors start to take over and remain in the after taste. If you like a super smooth stout and gravitate towards sweeter beers, this is well worth a shot. I will be picking up quite a bit more to drink as a "dessert beer." Very important: SERVE COLD!
September 13, 200718 yr In related news: Otter Creek has to be one of the most disappointing breweries around. They have an incredibly mediocre lineup of beers that SHOULD taste better than they actually do. I had their organic beer line, Wolavers, last night. NOT a good beer. Rating: 2.2/5 I keep wanting to like beers from Otter Creek but I keep getting left wanting. Maybe I need to drive up to Burlington Vt and get this stuff from the tap because perhaps the bottle doesn?t do it justice. It pours a copper color with a faint caramel and coffee smell. I can taste some roasted coffee on the sides of my tongue but the middle dries out quickly with the taste of dry oats. I keep tasting, thinking that more complex flavors will be found, but nothing is there. Taking price, taste, and quality into account, I?ll be sticking with the Samuel Smiths.
September 13, 200718 yr What constitutes a pumpkin ale? Is it color? It is brewed with pumpkin. From BeerAdvocate: Description: Often released as a fall seasonal, Pumpkin Ales are quite varied. Some brewers opt to add hand-cut pumpkins and drop them in the mash, while others use puree or pumpkin flavoring. These beers also tend to be spiced with pumpkin pie spices, like: ground ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and all spice. Pumpkin Ales are typically mild, with little to no bitterness, a malty backbone, with some spice often taking the lead. Many will contain a starchy, slightly thick-ish, mouthfeel too. In our opinion, best versions use real pumpkin, while roasting the pumpkin can also add tremendous depth of character for even better results, though both methods are time-consuming and tend to drive brewmasters insane.
September 13, 200718 yr So Blue Moon is pumpkin ale? It's easily my favorite beer. No. Blue Moon HAS a Pumpkin Ale. The Blue Moon you're probably thinking of is a Belgian White [witbier]. Does it have a label like this: ? If you like that, you HAVE to get yourself a bottle of Hoegaarden.

Does it have a label like this: ? If you like that, you HAVE to get yourself a bottle of Hoegaarden. I loathe wheat beer. I remember somebody said it earlier in this thread and it is so true: Every once in a great while I crave a wheat beer, will have one and think "my God! I love me some wheat beer!" By the third one I return to my loathing stage and will remain in this stage for another few months until the cycle starts all over again.

Does it have a label like this: ? If you like that, you HAVE to get yourself a bottle of Hoegaarden. Ya I've had Hoegaarden and I do like it a lot. I go to the World Markets once in a while and get a custom 6-pack of imports. I also like Dos Equis a lot...Paulaner as well.
September 13, 200718 yr Hoegaarden and I do like it a lot. I go to the World Markets once in a while and get a custom 6-pack of imports. I also like Dos Equis a lot...Paulaner as well. Yeah, Paulaner is really good, but that is a german wheat beer - Hoegarden and Blue Moon are witbier's [meaning white beers - or what we call Belgian Whites] and are a slightly different style of wheat. Ommegang [from Cooperstown] makes an excellent Witte that I have been very happy with. Another beer worth checking out if you can find it.
September 21, 200718 yr I am looking for beer requests, here. I have hit a wall and I need to see some solid recommendations out of this group. Go Team!
September 21, 200718 yr I am looking for beer requests, here. I have hit a wall and I need to see some solid recommendations out of this group. Go Team! Too much pressure. That's like ARod asking for hitting advice. Edit: Although I am going down to that PRL bar tonight, maybe i'll bring my laptop and have the owner make some recommendations for you. We can do a live online beer tasting.
September 21, 200718 yr That would be clutch. In the mean time, I decided to buy some oldies but goodies that I never added to my ratebeer list. I did purchase another Dogfish Head World Wide Stout, but that is for a special gift. The rest looks like this: *Mendocino Octoberfest *Post Road Pumpkin Ale - do not purchase *Out of Bounds Stout Spaten Oktoberfest Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen Rogue Imperial Stout Orvall Trappist Ale Delerium Nocturnum Young's Double Chocolate Stout *denotes first try
September 21, 200718 yr Update: Post Road Pumpkin Ale Aroma: 8/10 Appearance: 3/5 Flavor: 5/10 Palate: 2/5 Overall Impression: 10/20 Score: 2.8/5 At first, I was pretty happy. This poured a nice amber with a one finger head flowing over the top of the glass. The smell of pumpkin pie was unmistakable. That's also the first taste that tickles the tastebuds. Then the ale sets in. It finishes with a dry coppery feeling in your mouth. There are way too many good pumpkins out there to have to drink this.
September 22, 200718 yr YO yankeefan, im here at the bar right now, i forgot he has a computer in here. I am drinking a grimbergen blonde ale. mmm tasty! Gimme something to try!
