21st birthdays are for liquor, not beer.

So we are taking Bacardi instead of Budweiser, Jack Daniels instead of a Miller then for the special day?

What are y'all considering manly liquor? :mis2

It's hard to believe that owner Jaroslaw "Jay" Rottermund can fit 114 beers from 22 countries into this tiny nook of a bar. But he manages to stock everything from Argentina's Quilmes (essentially the Budweiser of Argentina) to Turkey's Efes Pilsen (which has a basketball team named after it) to 15 American brews. Although Rottermund says he won't look down on you for ordering a Bud Light draft, the most popular flavors among the bar's young, artsy crowd are Belgium's Delirium Tremens ($6), Belzebuth from France (also $6 but 13 percent alcohol!), and the number-one bestseller, Zywiec ($4), a lager from Poland. For mental stimulation, Rottermund has sprinkled the bar with trinkets like chessboards, books, a computer with Internet access ? and a giant birdcage in which naked Barbie dolls live side by side with a plastic swan. "It is forbidden to feed the swan," Rottermund says. The punishment for transgressors? "You will have to buy a beautiful, exotic beer."

Cool stuff.

Have a 6 pack of these tonight on me and you'll feel better, yankeefan.

:lol

Actually, I drowned my sorrows in some Saranac Kolsch. I had been avoiding this beer for some reason [stupid low ratebeer rating?] and slapped myself for doing so. I have no idea why this beer is rated in the 17th percentile but it was really refreshing. It has a smooth crisp slightly sweet aftertaste and goes down easy. What do these so-called experts at ratebeer know anyway? :mischief

Saranac makes good stuff yf21.

Pretty far (about 45 minutes?). The Panthers arena is way out west, while this place is near the beach. Let me know when you are down here though.

It's about 5 miles directly east of the Hard Rock.

I just returned from denver last night - kind of upset as they were starting the great american beer festival about the same time I was boarding my plane

had a great time in the city and the beer selections are great - also some local buzz about the miller/coors potential merger

probably went on the best brewery tour of my life at the flying dog brewery - if anyone has a chance check it out - they encourage drinking before, during and after the tour - you even get to see and taste the whiskey at their sister company - beers were really good and they even poured us samples out of the kettles before they go to bottling

really knowledgeable and fun staff as well

the double dog and barleywine were probably my tops tasted with the old scratch amber and the dogtoberfest marzen coming in right behind that

Cool stuff. I love the labels on the flying dog beers, did they talk about who does them or any story behind them?

Cool story. I would like to check them out.

Its funny because today I randomly looked up the GABF and saw it starts right now. Is it always in denver?

I may try and go there next year.

no idea on the GABF as far as if it rotates - i had my trip booked and was looking for things to check out and saw it was going on right as I was leaving - i wanted to kick myself for bad planning

they did touch on the labels a little - i guess when the brewery started they co-oped with a lot of other brewers to share costs - then when they went completely independent and wanted to differentiate from the other micros that flooded the marketplace they leaned on their pre-existing relationship with hunter s. thompson (this they did not elaborate on) - through this connection they got into contact with the guy who did the illustrations for him and he agreed to draw up their label art

This is what $54 at the liquor store got me yesterday

1 22 ounce bottle of Chimay (red)

1 22 ounce bottle of 3 philosophers (thanks godfather)

mix 6 pack of oktoberfests/pumpkin ales (becks, otter creek, smuttynose, saranac and two others)

4 pack of Mardoues (two 8's and two 10's)

mix pack of sam adams (black lager, honey porter and brown ale)

1 22 ounce bottle of 3 philosophers (thanks godfather)

Did you drink the three philosophers yet? And gotta give credit to YF21 for that one, that was originally his suggestion to me a few months ago.

It was pretty good. All you can smell is the lambic, but it doesnt taste like one. Its was pretty good.

I just had Sam Adams Honey porter for the first time. Its excellent. I had black lager by sam last night and that was good as well.

Miller Chill is TERRIBLE.

On a side note I am going to brew a beer tomorrow and submit it to sam adams for home brew contest.

Blame YF21, it's his recommendation. :lol jk. I love the stuff, I find the cherry lambic flavor to be soooo subtle. So smooth.

You gotta get the St. Bernadus Apt. 12 next.

I'll check tomorrow. The one place in rhode island that has it, was sold out last time. The owner told me to come back in 6 weeks and see if they had more.

so downstairs at the Bierhaus, they are giving away these mini Warsteiner bottles for free

pretty good stuff... not sure if it was spoken about here
