March 11, 200818 yr Three Philosophers is great from what I've heard. I've been drinking Stella Artois and Hoegaarden lately. Good stuff.
March 13, 200818 yr Three Philosophers is great from what I've heard. You've clearly been listening to me... :lol One tasting note - if you have the means/opportunity, try it with a really good medium rare steak. It's a pairing made in heaven. Penguino - I honestly can't remember ever trying a Swiss beer. There's a fairly highly rated brewery out there [brasserie des Franches-Montagnes or BFM] that looks like it might be a good bet. I guess I'll have to lean on you for advice when you get back! :thumbup
March 13, 200818 yr I hit the jackpot the other day. I walked into a liquor store (not my usual one) and happend to glance at the clearning rack. Well I happened to find Trappist Rochefort 8 in there! I was like WTF? I looked and they were selling at 3.49 a bottle, half of what it normally costs. I quickly grabbed a basket and bought their entire supply. I guess they tried to buy some fancy beer and it didnt sell. Just down there road there is another liquore store that is about 5 times larger and carries a lot of specialty beers. So most people that know about different beers wouldnt think about going to the place I happened to stumble upon. They also had some Orvals, and a few other ones that I am going back for tomorrow.

Excellent! BTW: St. Bernardus Apt 12 > Three Philosophers.
March 15, 200818 yr Well, guys. Just wanted to let you know that I'm going to try and severely cut back on my beer drinking. After doing some math, I've found I spend somewhere around $3,000 a year in beer. Plus, drinking 6 to 8 beers a night on average can't be that good for my liver. Gonna quit smoking too. I figure I spend over $1,000 a year in cigarettes (which is better than when I used spend $2,000 to $3,000). I figure if I can do this, I can make some huge financial improvements in my life as well as my health.

You're going to end up like the one transplant recipient on the ESPN.com E-Ticket "Ray of Hope".

There are health benefits involved with drinking 1-2 beers a day, such as preventing heart disease and alzheimers. 40-50 beers a week is not good for you. 10-20 a week should be fine.
March 21, 200818 yr I think I average slightly less than a case of beer per MONTH. Wow thats not much. I rarely drink sunday-thursday and probably have 15 beers during the weekend. So I would say 60 beers during a normal month. If I go on vacation or have some sort of long weekend, then that number rises. I am way down from the levels I used to be at. My senior year at college I probably had 40-50 beers a week. After I graduated I probably was down to 20-30 a week. Now I usually say around 15 or so. I'll do 5-6 on a friday then 10 or so on saturday. Tomorrow we are having a Trappistfest. I'll post the entries after we go get them later today. Not sure of the rules, but it should be a good time.
March 22, 200818 yr I average about 15 beers a week on average. But that's generally based on two nights of moderate-to-heavy drinking and then a beer here or there the other days.
March 24, 200818 yr I really had to cut back to prevent a beer belly. Now, I only have a few beers a week. The important thing, of course, is to make sure I'm trying something new almost every time. So, when I'm dropping $4 or $5 [or in a few cases $20] per bottle, I'd rather sip it from the appropriate glassware and enjoy it. I just don't drink to get drunk anymore [open bar at the wedding in Philly this weekend excluded :thumbup ].
March 26, 200818 yr I'm thinking about expanding my inventory of glasses. Anyone know a good web site to order from? Fairly inexpensive and preferably unbranded? Honestly, Target has a decent selection so I imagine WalMart may as well... What are you looking for? Have you seen my favorite link ever Glassware Guide? Anyway, here's a link to some: Pilsner glasses Beer Mugs Typical pint glasses Goblets Also, my April beers are here! I'll post once I've polished off a couple...
March 26, 200818 yr Also, Crate and Barrel is pretty high end stuff so I was surprised to see some decent prices here: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/beer-glasses/drinkware/1

The proper glassware makes a huge difference, a Belgium just doesn't taste the same drinking it from a pint.
March 28, 200818 yr a Belgium just doesn't taste the same drinking it from a pint. I never really knew what a big deal it was. I mean, come on - it's all the same, right? Then I sipped a Chimay Blue from a mug and did the same from a proper Trappist glass. It was a VERY different experience. The chalice allowed you to literally bathe your tongue in the beer where the mug was more like spraying it with a hose. The mouth feel was very different and the tastes you pick up are much more distinguishable. I have been converted to serving beers in their proper glassware. :thumbup
March 28, 200818 yr German Beer > all Belgian MONK Beer> Belgian Beer > German Beer > * Und ja - I've been to Munich fer der Oktoberfest!
March 28, 200818 yr Which beer club are you in? None anymore. I just got my last shipment. It used to be something called "Malt of the Earth." Instead, I'm going to leech off of their website and try ONE bottle of each of their monthly recommendations. This month has been pretty good but last month the best beer was barely above average. Actually, the last two months, the bad beers were TERRIBLE and the good beers were just okay to good. The other thing is that their website lists beers you don't get in the package - which totally throws me off!
March 31, 200818 yr Is there a moratorium on Ommegeddon brewing at the moment? One of the not so great liquor stores near me has 2 bottles for $12 a piece. Not sure if it is worth a purchase or not. Any thoughts? I've never sampled this one before. I wrote something up about this earlier in the thread. I was REALLY disappointed in this beer. I'll give you the link when I find it.
March 31, 200818 yr Evidentally, I didn't post my rating here. Here's TGF's: http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...t&p=1511207 It's pretty much the same as my opinion.
April 4, 200818 yr Interesting. I'm thinking about saving the $12 since you both didn't speak highly of it. I don't have a cellar (apartment) so the best I could probably do is refrigerate (and risk drying out) the beer. If I sat down and thought about it I could probably rig up something but I don't have a suitable storage place at the moment. Totally not worth it. If you ever come across the Chocolate Indulgence, though, buy out the store.
May 22, 200818 yr I have a confession to make....I drank Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus "beer" tonight. Not sure how this happened to me, it just did. I am somewhat glad Yankeefan21 isn't around much to hear this news. I wish I could say that I only drank one, but unfortunately I have to admit that I drank multiple Mich Ultra Lime Cactus "beers". Sigh. My rep as a beer drinking pro just went down a solid 15-20 points. The one good thing I will give to this "beer" though is that the cactus part is legit. I felt like I could taste an actual prickly cactus thorn going down my throat with every sip. Very authentic.
