October 14, 200323 yr In Pavano's only start against the Cubs this season, Pavano allowed three earned runs over seven innings in a 5-1 loss at Wrigley on July 9. He'd been locked in a 1-1 duel with Wood through six innings, but in the seventh, Pavano served up a two-run homer to Sammy Sosa as part of a four-run Cubs eighth. Now you be the coach: We've finished 5 innings. Pavano's doing okay, it's tied up at 2. Maybe he's around 80 pitches. How long would you go with Pavano, and how would you set up the bullpen? I can remember several occasions where Carl was cruising through 5 or 6 innings, but then got knocked around in the late innings. The bullpen is definately rested after 2 days off. Do you go back to Fox after blowing the Game 3 lead? Give Looper a try? Use Penny out of the bullpen? Try Urbina for 2 innings?
October 14, 200323 yr well first:-you cant say that fox is going 2 choke just bc he choked in game 3 even though this is a very important game-but fox pitched great before and you should have trust in the people who got you here-so you take him out of the game and hand it over to the rested bullpen.-it dosent really matter so much who you hand the ball over to.
October 14, 200323 yr If the score is tied at the end of the 5th, I would leave him in there for one more inning. If at any time during that inning he struggles a little bit or a couple of guys hit some good hard, then I would take him out. If he has the lead at the end of the 5th, I would still leave him in there for one more inning no matter what. I would then bring in Chad Fox to close out the 6th and 7th innings, bring in Looper for the 8th and Urbina for the 9th. Its a big gamble, but I'm willing to bet that it pays off.
October 14, 200323 yr if Pavano goes 6.... he is done after that bring in Penny to pitch inning #7.... if he cruises, let him pitch the 8th, Uggy in the 9th(assuming we are winning), if not let Brad keep going
October 14, 200323 yr If Pavano is near 80-90 pitches in the sixth, the seventh will be his last inning no matter what. If he is at that point before the sixth then it will be up to the situation. Carl is a pitcher who does better on the second time through the order. Innings 1-7 Pavano Innings 8+ Bullpen
October 14, 200323 yr we have to take him out before he starts giving up runs at the end of the game bc he is tired-jack has 2 notice him tired before he notices it bc hes giving up runs.-even if hes doing good after 7-still hand it over 2 the bullpen.
October 14, 200323 yr Pavano goes 6 for me. He starts the seventh with a very short leash, and Penny coming in sometime in the seventh. Warm up the Yellow Dart and depending what part of the order is up leave Penny or call on Fox. Then warmup Ugy and Loop, and send in Ugy for the ninth. Loop would be warming just in case.
October 14, 200323 yr I would let Pavano go 6 innings unless he gets knocked around. For the 7th inning I would send fox.If he didn't struggle I would send him back again. If he did struggle I would send Penny. If he sucks then I would leave Urbina for the 8th and 9th innings.
October 14, 200323 yr if after 5 he's thrown 80 pitches and the game is tied up, let him start the 6th with Fox warming up. if he gets through the 6th than he's done. bring in Fox for the 7th, maybe he stays in the 8th. if not than bring in Loop, and Ugueth in the 9th. of course this all depends on whether we can take the lead
October 14, 200323 yr Pavs gets 6 innings maybe even 7, but neva the 8th or the 9th pavz has always sucked in the 8th and 9th... Fox and Uggey GAME OVA anything Xtra you put in Penny or Willis... now has anyone thought about maybe this game being postponed and redman would go tomorrow and than a game 7 we go with beckett on 3 days rest?
