Name Change Petiton

well with Miami and Miami-Dade county putting in as much as they are putting in while the State of Florida has denied this team for 6 of the last 7 years....this state doesn't deserve a team named after them...so F*** THEM!!!

Not a stadium petition, this is a name change petition.

This is trying to create divisions when we don't need any more created.

It would be more useful to keep writing your elected officials with your support of the ballpark.

Anyone notice that City, County, and Team have backed off a name change? The City/County having the regional marketing of the team helps them bring out-of-county/city dollars to this new ballpark.

That's what makes it so appealing to the City/County.

Just look at the County Distribution of Attendance between the Marlins and HEAT/Panthers: http://floridafishfan.blogspot.com/2007/03...ida-part-2.html

Fish draw more evenly (closer to the population distribution in the market) than either the HEAT or Panthers. The divisions those 2 other teams created hurt. The HEAT by going Miami > Broward and the Panthers by Broward > Miami. There is no reason for the Fish to do such a thing.

Florida Marlins Baseball, take it or leave it.

i guess in the long run i might be leaving it....due to the fact that our state leaders don't deserve anything named after them....I'll always be a Marlins fan, now if i refer to them as state or city/county that is a totally different story....

Just because you are frustrated now doesn't mean it would be smart for this team to make such a big mistake. When you see Dade County and Miami City Commissioners backing off this ledge....that's because someone spoke to them about why the move is unwise.

If the team changes to the Miami Marlins, it will be at the team's discretion. Please remember however that this team is supported by fans all over and just because a few Senators in Tallahassee can't get anything done doesn't give right for those fans to be punished.

in the long run....the true fans of this club will support no matter what the name is....if it is name is Miami/Florida/Palm Beach/Las Vegas any of the above or anywhere else....true "MARLINS" fans will support it.

now im just in favor of this to support the legislators and elected officials that actually give a damn about this team, until otherwise proven

FSN Florida gives this team alot of support and they have a long-term contract to televise the FLORIDA MARLINS to Florida. When you get that much money from one place, you better not make them angry. Changing the name to Miami Marlins will make it harder for FSN to get games carried outside of South Florida. It could also open the door in the future for conflict with the Devil Rays if that team ever tries to take away TV territory.

No thank you to a name change!

your opinion just like it is my opinion to each their own....and as long as FSN show the games in South Florida...ill be fine :)

Let me say it again. The name change is part of the deal. If this thing happens, the Marlins will change their name to the Miami Marlins.

I really dont think it matters what the team is called. Just because they change the name to miami marlins wont stop people from going. Miami dolphins, florida panthers, miami heat its all doesnt matter. If you like the team who cares what its called.

With that said I personally think Florida Marlins sounds better than Miami Marlins

agreed totally!!!

It isn't my opinion, if names didn't mean anything then the Angels wouldn't have fought so hard to become the LA Angels again. Anaheim wouldn't have sued them either.

The shortsidedness shown by this argument is detrimental to the team and the ballpark effort. The team would lose money from FSN is they only aired games in SoFla.

ok but as it has been said before and David1 just posted....if this deal goes through the name change will go through so this arguement is mute

I personally don't care about the name change, but if it does happen....Loria & Company better send a message to the Devil Rays saying no changes in territory will occur. The Rays are feeling very cheerful about invading territory.

The petition is to change the name before the deal no? Or is it that vague?

Anyways if this issue is mute (considering how much it has been argued on here) then this thread should be locked up and merged into one of the previous MM threads.

We should be the Miami Marlins of Hialeah

Miami-Dade Marlins on Miami gets my vote.

On Miami to show the River being close by. Since the river is close to both the OB and Downtown sites.

Id say that has everything to do with the fact that the Marlins play on the county line and nothing to do with them being the Florida Marlins

Personally, Id rather be them be the Miami Marlins, but thats just because Im from there and I dont really care for any part of Florida outside the 305. But in the end, I dont give a damn what theyre called. As long as theyre playing somewhere near Downtown Miami I'll be happy

They can call them the Miami Dickwads for all I care. The important thing is they stay in South Florida. Thanks for the linkage MrFish!

your welcome JonDigital :)

To clarify, I know it is a part of the deal because Mayor Diaz has confirmed it to me via e-mail recently.
