The C's will without a doubt be a playoff team + a series win with a core of:

 

Al Jefferson (improving by the day, really overlooked), Shawn Marion, and Paul Pierce plus a piece from this loaded draft. Nevermind the last part, the #5 would obviously be changing hands.

 

Oh sure they would, but I assume that Jefferson is one of the players going to Minny, and while Marion is a really really good player Pierce and the Matrix isn't nearly as sexy as Pierce and KG.

 

The Celtics are in a real hole with the #5, I think they'd keep the pick if they knew they could get Horford or Brandan Wright, but there's a real good chance both are gone...so I understand their desire to move the pick for a veteran player to go for it with Pierce, but what good does 3 years of 4 seed contention do for a team?

 

That's all I'm getting at, they have the resources to get KG, and are probably the only team that could do it one-for-one with the Wolves, but they can't get it done because of KG not wanting to go there.

But any trade is always a matter of how it makes you better. They've already technically amassed the the 7th pick. They need to know that any trade they make will result in a team they prefer over Garnett and the 7th pick.

 

So ultimately, this trade boils down to the 5th pick and Green for Kevin Garnett. I don't know. Maybe it's just my opinion. But I think they can do better.

Plus other players (quality/quantity unknown) and the possibility of future picks.

 

Don't discount what it means for the team that is going nowhere in it's current mold to drop the most expensive player in the league and instantly have major cap room and will have a bunch of young talent rather quickly.

 

I think it's reasonable for a franchise that needs a complete overhaul and has no leverage.

The problem is that they also have to pick up Wally's contract(Wally and Theo) to make the deal work under the CBA. Wally's contract is a disaster and handcuffs them anyways because they have Blount, Hudson, and Hassell all of whom have bloated contracts. So at best, they might have cap room in the summer of 09, but I still think they don't. They would have to wait until the summer of 2010 more likely.

 

Recall too that a story came out yesterday in which Pierce apparently has told the Celtics that they have to acquire star help or he will demand a trade. Bill Simmons was reporting that the Celtics are in full blown panic mode. At the least, I bet Boston throws in West and something else.

 

You're right though that the Twolves have less leverage because KG has basically said I will only go to the Suns. But remember that Marion is saying he won't go to the Celtics, so the deal is stuck regardless.

If Im the Celtics there is no way Im trading Al Jefferson for anything other than a KG, Kobe, Wade, LeBron etc you get the point. Marion is a terrific player but I wouldnt give up AL for him. Al Jefferson is gonna be a beast in the NBA very soon and to trade him just as he is about to explode would be idiotic. Now, I really really really like Yi. I think he is gonna be a stud in the NBA. He is Dirk with an attitude that actually drives to the hole. This dude has size, speed and a shot.

 

Like Passion was saying the T'Wolves arent gonna get 'fair' value for KG. In the NBA expiring contracts and youth is where its at. Minnesota needs to start from scratch and this will allow them to do that.

 

As for the Heat, nbadraft.net has them taking Derrick Byars from Vandy. Dont know too much about him but he is a combo guard with great athleticism and a decent 3 pt shot. In the second round they have the Heat taking some Finnish PG who has great size for a PG at 6-4 200 pounds. His read up says he is a pass first, pass second, shoot third type of PG, which is what the Heat could really use. I wonder how NBA ready he is.

 

That Pat Riley blurb about being talked out of taking Kaman with the 5th pick Im thinking is false. Pat Riley said he was looking for a big man he really wanted Bosh but he said after he watched his alma mater Kentucky lose to Marquette cause of a D Wade triple double he said that was the performance that made up his mind that if Bosh was unavailable at 5 that he would go with Wade. I would say originally Riley probably wanted Kaman over Wade but I think that changed after he saw personally what Wade can do. I dont think he was talked out of anything on draft night.

I'd love that, but I doubt Stuckey will be around at #20. According to Chad Ford, if the Hawks trade the #11 pick to Seattle for Ridenour, the Sonics would take Stuckey there. But someone falls every year, so you never know.

How ridiculous would the Suns be if they got Garnett and a lottery pick from Charlotte.

I don't think Stuckey can turn into the PG the Heat would be looking for. He is a score first, second and third guy before even thinking about passing. I realize he averaged nearly 6 assist per as well, but he is more in the role of Dwyane Wade than a legit point guard.

 

That being said, he is an absolute stud and if he fell passed 15-16 that would be a steal for anyone picking in those spots
