The Marlins lead the league in the amount of times they have struck out, a total of 550 times.

The next team is the Devil Rays, at 483, almost a 70 strikeout difference.

This is unacceptable. Strike outs are rally killers, and the worst way to get out.

They can't keep this up. We make duds look like studs.

Has the hitting coach not told them to shorten the swing and hit for contact with 2 strikes?

Has Fredi told them to be aggressive and swing away with two strikes?

I don't know. I want answers, and as far as I know, Bill Robinson left a long time ago.

we just have alot of free swingers on this team

and even our more patient guys, Hammer and Hermida, strikeout a lot too

Fredi has said time and time again (and Josh Willingham was also quoted saying something similar in today's Sun-Sentinel) that he's not worried about the strikeouts and that they're overrated. So you won't hear him complaining or doing anything to stop them.

well what do you expect him to say?

That we're striking out too much? Or would that hurt the fragile egos of the players?

A double play is a much worse rally killer than a strikeout. A hit and run with less than 2 out where you hit a sharp line drive right at someone is a much worse rally killer.

In fact, I can't think of any time when a strikeout is the worst type of out, unless the guy on base was running and gets thrown out.

I still can hardly believe that Buddy Carlyle, a AAAA-type player, owned us so badly.

If bases are loaded, then a groundball or a flyball to the outfield could score a run, while a strike out does absolutely nothing. When the ball is hit, anything could happen, errors, bloops, infield hits, etc. This is what I mean.

If you hit a groundball with the bases loaded you also run the risk of a double play (much worse than a strikeout.) When you put the ball in play, more often than not, you will be out.

This is another of the great myths of baseball. Strikeouts do not have an association with runs scored either positively or negatively

We now lead the league in runs scored. The constant complaining about the offense is insane.

:thumbup There's no correlation between Ks and runs scored.

may not have a direct correlation with runs scored, but when you put the ball in play more, you do in fact have a better chance of reaching base...and really...thats the point of hitting...to get on base somehow, someway...a strikeout is a useless out and we will never be an elite team unless we at least cut down on the k's

Go back to past seasons and look at where teams ranked in Ks and runs scored and you'll find there's no correlation between the two.

Bottom line: We lead in runs scored but have a sub .500 record.

If it is not the strikeouts, then what is causing this? Pitching, fielding?
